He located where he now resides, in Henry County, and remained there two years. He moved thence to Shelby County, and in 1834 returned to his present place. His parents, John M. and Mary (Southerland) Maddox, were born in Virginia, but moved to Kentucky in 1810. His grand- father, Notley Maddox, was a native of Maryland, but died in Virginia. Our subject, like his ancestors, follows farming, owns 450 acres of well improved land, and is one of the well known farmers of Henry County. He was united in marriage in 1828 with Priscilla Magruder, daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth (Southerland) Magruder, natives of Virginia. Of the six children born to this union, four are living: Susan, Priscilla, Josiah and James. Politically Mr. Maddox is a Democrat.
