G. W. SEWELL was born in Clark County, Ky., April 1, 1833, the fifth of a family of 
ten children born to Joseph and Catherine (Sewell) Sewell. His father was a mechanic 
and miller by trade, built a mill, and was engaged in milling up to his death. He was 
a native of Kentucky. His mother was born in Virginia, and was a daughter of Thomas 
Sewell, who was a native of Virginia. Our subject lived in Clark County until he was 
six years old, he then moved to Henry County with his parents, and now runs the mill 
built and owned by his father, and grinds corn and wheat, also saws lumber and shingles. 
He owns 205 acres of land, and is engaged in farming and stock raising. He married in 
November 1866, Miss Ann M. Buford, of Livingston County, daughter of Thomas Buford. 
Three children blessed their union: Joseph T., William F. and Emmie. Mrs. and Mrs. 
Sewell are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Mr. Sewell is a Master Mason, 
and has been Worshipful Master.
