Mattie's Scrapbook of Obituaries, page 4 ANSWERS LAST ROLL CALL ON EARTH Mrs J T V Brown Age 76 Passes Away at her Home Near Vandersburg Thursday. After a few days illness, Mrs J T V Brown, who lived between Slaughters and Vandersburg, died at her home at 7:30 last Thursday evening. She was 76 years, 8 months and 26 days old. Her husband W H Brown and three children have preceeded her to the Better Land. Mrs Brown was well and favorably known and was loved by all knew who her. She was a good and kind woman, a loving and affectionate mother, and will be sadly missed by her many friends. She leaves 11 children, six girls and five boys, nine grand children, one brother and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. W T Winstead after which the remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery nearby. Her baby girl, born Wednesday night, died at nine o'clock Saturday morning. Mrs Beeny was admitted to the hospital late Wednesday. Besides her husband, Mrs Beeny is survived by three children, Marvin Ray, Dorothy Marie and Charles E Beeny; mother, Mrs Mary Harris, Kentucky Derby mine section; six brothers, Clarence Harris, Madisonville; Ruel and Vernon Harris, Browders section; Joe Frank, Sterling and Liona Harris, all of the Kentucky Derby mine vicinity, and a sister, Mrs Herman Shouse, of near Evansville, Ind. 1500 at Funeral Fifteen hundred persons attended funeral services for Mrs Anna Bell Beeny, 34, wife of Deputy Sheriff ELmer Beeny, and her 3-day-old daughter, who were buried in a single casket, at Olive Branch church Sunday afternoon. county Judge J D Shain officiated. Rev. J L Piercy and Rev. J E Hartford, Slaughters, officiated. Burial was in a cemetery near Slaughters. Brooks, a retired mail carrier, is survived by the widow, Mrs Bertha Brooks, two daughters, Mrs Gus Dunville, Onton, and Mrs J T Cook, near Slaughters, and five grandchildren. He was an uncle of Mrs J W Brown, Wells avenue, who attended the last rites. J F Bumpass Claimed By Death Expires Suddenly At His Home At Providence -- Was General Baptist Minister 44 Years (Special to the Banner.) Providence, March 10.--Rev. J F Bumpass, age 68, died suddenly at his home here between 12 and 1 o'clock Tuesday night. He had been about his usual work Tuesday, eaten a hearty supper and retired in his usual health. About 12 o'clock, his wife noticed him groaning and called to their daughter, and by the time the daughter reached his bedside he expired. Rev. Bumpass was the oldest minister in the Union Association of General Baptists, having been a member for forty four years. He had held pastorates in Webster, Union, McLean and Daviess counties. He was an able minister and had many friends wherever he was known. He was perfectly devoted to his church and its teachings and spent nearly a half century in preaching the gospel. His widow, three daughters and one son survive. Funeral services will be held at the White Oak church near here Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock conducted by Rev. Chas. J F Bumpass, 1861 - 1927 Alvie J Bumpass, 1865 - 1941 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- WALLACE H BARRON DIES OF PNEUMONIA NEBO CITIZEN, FORMERLY OF THIS PLACE DIES SUNDAY FAMILY OF TEN ILL Nebo, Ky., Jan 20.-- After an illness of only a few days with influenza Wallace H Barron developed pneumonia from which he died Sunday evening just as the evening train came in. His brother, W T Barron, of Mayfield, was summoned to his bedside Sunday and arrived Sunday evening on that train, but Wallace had died only a few moments before. Mrs Lizzie Myers also came as a nurse. His death was such a shock to the town and his family, for we had no idea he was so dangerously ill, and everybody was his friend. He was rural route mail carrier on Route No 2 from Nebo. He leaves a wife and 9 children, none of them grown. His family lived with Mrs H R Cox, Mrs Barron's mother. He also leaves one brother, Will T Barron, a tobacconist, of Mayfield, and a sister Mrs Allie Hamilton of Beaumont, Texas. Wallace was a member of the Christian church, a man who was popular as a citizen and will be greatly missed. He was about 40 years old. Arrangements for the funeral have not been made. Union Cemetery, Hwy 41-A, Nebo, Hopkins Co, Ky Wallace H Barron, 1878 - 1919 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- M P BUNTIN M P Buntin, 55 years old, of Dawson Springs, died there at 9 o'clock Sunday night of asthma. He was the proprietor of the Niles Hotel at Dawson Springs and was widely known in the county. The deceased was reared in the Hanson country and was the son of the late Billy Buntin. He is survived by his widow and several children. Burial will probably be in Olive Branch cemetery Tuesday. Oddfellows Cemetery, Madisonville, Ky M P Buntin, June 11, 1867 - May 7, 1922 Ella, his wife, Sept 7, 1871 - Jan 18, 1929 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- WED BROWN, SR., DEAD. Wed Brown, Sr., one of the most beloved citizens of the West Hanson country, died Saturday evening about 4 o'clock, death being due to yellow jaundice and complications. Mr Brown was about 65 years old, a member of the Baptist Church at Olive Branch and one of the best citizens of Hopkins county. He was perhaps as well known as any farmer in the county and was held in the very highest regard by all who knew him. He had been in ill health for over six months. He leaves a wife and two children. Their names are John and Alice. The funeral was held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at Olive Branch church, attended by one of the largest crowds ever seen at a funeral in the county, the ceremonies being conducted by Rev. J D Woodson of Eddyville, Ky. Interment followed at Olive Branch cemetery. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved family and friends. ---------- Mrs. Laura Brown. Mrs Laura Brown, 80, widow, died at her home in the West Hanson section last night of infirmities following a long period of ill health. She is survived by a son, John Brown, West Hanson. W C Brown, January 11, 1849 - Nov 4, 1916 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- WELL KNOWN WOMAN CLAIMED BY DEATH Mrs M R Brown Passes Away at Evansville Hospital After 14 Weeks Illness Mrs Ethel Brown, age 44, wife of M R Brown of near town, died at the Deaconess hospital Monday night at 10 o'clock following an illness lasting since March 29, when she underwent an operation for appendicitis. Mrs Brown was born in Crisney, Ind., on December 10, 1886, and was married to M R Brown of the Slaughters country on April 3, 1910. They moved to his farm about three miles south of town in 1913 where they have since resided. Mrs Brown was a member of the Missionary Baptist church here and was one of its most faithful and devoted members. She had a host of friends in this section who will sadly miss her. She was a woman that loved the association of her friends, and it was her greatest pleasure to be of service to others. Funeral services were held at the Missionary Baptish church here Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Ernest Martin, assisted by Rev. J W Johnston, with interment in Springdale cemetery. Pall bearers were: W I Smith, J V Horner, Claud Martin, Tom Berry, G M Wright and Joe Winstead. Flower girls were members of her Sunday School class and Girls Auxilary. Besides her husband, one sister, Mrs W J Wright, of Degomia Springs, Ind., survive. Her mother died about two months ago. Springdale Cemetery, Webster Co, Ky M R Brown, 1873 - 1945 Cora Ethel Brown, 1886 - 1931 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wed Brown Funeral In Olive Branch Church Funeral for Wed Brown, 66, Madisonville route 2 farmer and former teacher who died at 2:15 pm Tuesday in Hopkins County Hospital from an intestinal ailment, was conducted at 1 pm today in the Olive Branch Baptist church. Rev. H S Summers officiated, assisted by Rev. Rupert Utley. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Douglas Graham, Arthur Crawford, Conrad Carmack, Arrlin Rhea, William Mills and Bernice Cates. For eighteen years Mr Brown was a teacher in Hopkins county and Webster county schools before he engaged in farming. He was a member of the Baptist church. Born May 12, 1873, near Slaughters, Hopkins county, Mr Brown, son of Clevarious Coleman and Emily Masoncup Brown, married Miss Emma A Ramsey August 29, 1897. To them two children were born, Glenvar A Brown, Stanford, Ky, high school principal, and J E Brown, Madisonville, who with the widow survive. Other survivors are a grandson, Mark Brown, Stanford, Ky.; a brother, Wm T Brown, Madisonville route 2, and a sister, Mrs Laura Craig, East Noel.
