Mattie's Scrapbook of Obituaries, page 6 Willis Gooch Hanson, Ky., Nov. 10--Willis Gooch, 73 years old, prominent farmer, residing one mile west of here, died Sunday night at 8:30 o'clock following several strokes of paralysis. He had a wide acquaintance in the county and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. Mr Gooch is survived by his widow, two children, Delia and Roland Gooch, brother, J W Gooch, Waco, Texas, and three nieces, Mrs W R Pratt, Mrs J W Thomson and Mrs Nora Hopewell, all of Madisonville. He was also a relative of P Hardy Gooch, of Madisonville. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the family home. Rev. W P Winstead officiated. Interment was in the family burying ground. Willis Gooch Hanson, Ky., Nov. 12-- Funeral services for the late Willis Gooch, 73, prominent farmer, held at the family residence one mile west of here Tuesday afternoon, was attended by friends and relatives from various sections of Hopkins and also from Webster county, comprising the largest number of persons assembled on a similar occasion in this section for years. Rev. D S Edwards, of Hanson, and Rev. Will Winstead officiated. Burial was in the family burying ground. Mr Good died Sunday night following a stroke of paralysis. Death followed several days illness. Mrs Willis Gooch, 80, Claimed By Death Mrs Willis Gooch, 80, died at 5:20 am today in her home at Hanson following a long period of ill health. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Della Gooch, and a son Roland Gooch, both of Hanson; four brothers, E S Brown, D W Brown, M H Brown and T H Brown, all of Slaughters; five sisters, Mrs Ora Poole, Miss Camilla Brown, Miss Annie Brown, Mrs Henry Jones, all of Slaughters, and Miss Sallie Brown, hanson; and several nieces and nephews. Funerals services will be conducted at 2:30pm Saturday in the home. Burial will be in the family cemetery. Gooch Cemetery, Located West of Hanson, Hopkins Co, Ky Willis H Gooch, December 2, 1851 - November 9, 1924 Lizzie, his wife, August 1, 1865 - May 17, 1946 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mrs Poole, 91, Slaughters, Dies Mrs Cordelia Jane Poole, 91, a resident of Slaughters for the past 35 years, died in Senior Citizen Nursing Home north of Madisonville, at 7 am today. She was born March 16, 1871, and was a member of the Slaughters Baptist Church. Surviving are the husband, Orah Poole; a son, Anthony J Poole, Slaughters route 1; two daughters, Mrs Marshall Henry, 411 Pride avenue, Madisonville, and Mrs Harlan Anderson, Middletown, Ky; two sisters, Miss Annie Brown, Slaughters, and Mrs Jennie Jones, Slaughters route 1; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Sunday in Slaughters Baptist Church with the Rev. Archie Oliver officiating assisted by the Rev. Roland Hobgood. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The body will be at Harris Funeral Home until noon Sunday when it will be taken to the church. Surviving are a son, William Brown, Dixon, and five sisters, Mrs Ora Poole, Mrs Henry Jones and Misses Annie and Camilla Brown, all of Slaughters, and Miss Sally Brown, Hanson. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday in the Harmony Baptist Church, near Dixon. The Rev. E G Sisk will officiate. Burial will be in the Brown family cemetery in Webster County. Brown Cemetery, located 1/2 mile off hwy 120 on Gooch-Jones Rd, Webster Co, Ky Ebenezer S Brown, 1859 - 1954 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Miss Brown, 81, Dies At Hanson Miss Sallie Melvina Brown, 81, Hanson route 2, died at 12:10 am today in the home of her nephew, Roland Gooch, Hanson route 2. Miss Brown, the daughter of the late W H and Tiny Strum Brown, is also survived by four sisters, Mrs Ora Poole, Mrs Jennie Jones, Miss Camilla Brown and Miss Annie Brown, all of Slaughters. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday in Olive Branch church, near Hanson, with the Rev. J W Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Brown cemetery in Webster county. The body was taken from Harris Funeral Home here this afternoon to the Gooch home to await the last rite. Brown Cemetery, located 1/2 mile off hwy 120 on Gooch-Jones Rd, Webster Co, Ky Sally M Brown, 16 Apr 1875 - 21 Sep 1956 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Woman Dies From Burns Miss Camilla Brown, 82, died in Hopkins County Hospital here at 10:30 pm Friday from burns inflicted when her dress caught fire from an open gas heater in her home in Slaughters around noon Friday. Miss Brown's sister, Miss Annie Brown, was sweeping the porch at the time her sister's dress caught fire. The two sisters lived together in Slaughters. By the time the sister had completed the sweeping and returned to the house, the burned woman had managed to extinguish the flames. She suffered serious burns over much of her body; but lived for ten hours after the fire. Surviving, in addition to the sister with whom she made her home, are two other sisters, Mrs Ora Poole, Slaughters; and Mrs Jennie Jones, of Slaughters route one. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 pm in Slaughters Baptist Church, with the Rev. J W Robison and the Rev. E M Skinner Jr officiating. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery near Slaughters. The body was to be taken from Harris Funeral Home to the residence at 4 pm today to await final rites.
