Mattie's Scrapbook of Obituaries, page 18 COULDN'T FACE COURT-- Brooding Over Crash, Man, 27, Kills Himself Joe Price, Slaughters, Found Shot to Death Near Parked Auto Brooding over a wreck here Oct. 19 in which six persons were injured caused a 27-year-old Webster county, Kentucky man to commit suicide near his home Saturday afternoon. Webster County Coroner J Murray Blue made that ruling yesterday in the death of Joe Marlin Price, who was found near his parked car in the land leading to his home just north of Slaughters, Ky., about 11 pm Saturday. Uncle Finds Body He was discovered by an uncle, Joseph Trice, who had gone to look for him because it was nearing time for him to report to work at the Texas Gas company booster station near his home. Coroner Blue quoted Mr Price's family as saying he had been worried all week because he was involved in a two-car wreck here at Kentucky and Taylor avenues. Mr Price was due to be tried Nov. 12 on a charge of reckless driving as a result of the accident. He and five others were injured. Mrs Jane Schrepferman, 47, of Terre Haute, was released from the hospital two days after the accident. Mrs Maude M Monical, 64, of 421 Maxwell avenue, the driver of the car Mr Price hit, suffered shoulder and leg injuries and was released only yesterday. All the others, Mr Price, Miss Anna Lois Davis, 19, of 609 East Maryland street, a passenger in his car; George Schrepferman, 47, of Terre Haute, and Mrs Minnie Schrepferman, 71, also of Terre Haute, were trated for minor injuries and released. Bullet in Temple According to police, Mr Price failed to observe a stop sign and hit Mrs Monical's car. Yesterday Mr Trice said he found Mr Price's body in some weeds just a few feet from his car. A new .38 caliber revolver was found near his body. He had a bullet would in his temple. A box which had contained the gun was found on the front seat of the dead man's car. Coroner Blue said he has been unable to locate the store which sold Mr Price the gun., Relatives said they thought he bought it in Madisonville. Webster County Sheriff Carmon Pullom and State Trooper Leroy Poole are working ont he case. Mr Price is survived by his mother, Mrs. Tenna Price, with whom he lived; his father, Charles Price, of Sturgis, Ky., and his uncle, Mr Trice. Funeral services will be at 2 pm Monday at the Methodist church in Slaughters. Rev. L F Piercy will officiate, with burial in the Dixon, Ky., cemetery. Mr Dawes, 65, had been a patient at the hospital for a week and a half. He was an employee of the city light department. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs Katherine Crowley, Faucett street, and Mrs Joyce Bell, Hodge street, Madisonville; Mrs Gene Tipton, Hanson; Mrs Agnes Hill, Chicagop; Mrs Lucille Baer, Washington, Pa; and Mrs Nola Cartr, Owensboro; two brothers, Shelley Dawes, Evansville, and Herbert Dawes, Los Angeles, Calif; a sister, Mrs Birdie Rich, Madisonville; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm Wednesday at Barnett- Strother Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Hobgood officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery east of Hanson. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. D S Edwards, with interment at the Tapp burrying ground. She was the wife of Crawford Strum. [I did not find Jane in the Tapp graveyard in Hopkins Co. or in Webster Co.] -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Isam Dawes, 76, Heart Victim Isam O Dawes, 76, retired farmer, 315 West Arch street, was found dead in bed at his home at 7 am today by his daughter, Mrs Bertie Rich, with whom he resided. Coroner William L Barnett conducted an inquest and a jury returned a verdict that death resulted from a heart attack. Surviving besides the daughter are three sons, Herbert Dawes, Los Angeles, Calif; Shellie Dawes, Evansville, and Arnold Dawes, Madisonville rfd 4; half-brother, Millard Dawes, Nomeoki, Ill, fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs Trice spent all of her early life in Hopkins and neighboring counties. She is survived by a son, J D Trice, of Metarie, La; a daughter, Mrs Roy Brown, Evansville; three grandchildren, all of Sebree, Mrs Bill McCulley, Hugh Tow and Uane Tow, and other relatives in Hopkins County. The body will be returned to Springfield Funeral Home in Sebree tonight. Funeral services are incomplete, awaiting the arrival of the family.
