Matties obits page 21 Rev. David Edwards Dies At Hanson Rev. David Spencer Edwards, 87, Baptist minister for fifty-five years when he retired from active ministerial work ten years ago because of declining health, died at 4:15 am today at his home in Hanson following a heart attach which he suffered at 11 pm. Monday. During his ministerial career Rev. Edwards had been pastor of Baptist churches in Hopkins and adjacent counties. Former State Senator He was a staunch democrat and a leader of his party for years. During the administration of Governor J C W Beckham Rev. Edwards represented the sixth senatorial district, composed of Christian and Hopkins counties, as state senator. He was the democratic nominee for representative from Hopkins county in 1917 and was defeated by Charles Ashby, republican, by 52 vtoes. For many years he had been a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, near Hanson, and of the Hanson Masonic Lodge. Rev. Edwards was born August 24, 1858, at Vandersburg, Webster county and was the son of David Columbus and Mary Ann Jackson Edwards. His first wife was Miss Millie Brown, who died shortly after their marriage. No children were born to them. His second wife, who was Miss Florence Brown, died February 27, last. Funeral Thursday Surviving are five children D S Edwards Jr, Parker Apartments, Madisonville, former superintendent of Hopkins county schools; R B Edwards 402 Sugg Street, Madisonville; Mrs Kate Shaeffer, Hebbardsville, Ky; Mrs Grace Kercheval, Princeton; and Mrs Virginia Oakley, Hanson. Two children died in infancy. Other survivors include three brothers, Charles Edwards, Henderson; James Edwards, Frankfort; and John Edwards, California; five sisters, Mrs Nan Melton, Mrs Flora DeArmond, Mrs Mollie Smith, Mrs Matt Thompson, all of Madisonville, and Mrs Nellie Hicks, Evansville. Twelve grandchildren, four of which are in the armed forces, also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm Thursday in Hanson Baptist church, Rev. E G Sisk, Dixon, officiating. Also surviving are: sisters, Ruth, Milda Lee and Flora Belle; brother, Marvin and Ralph, and grandmothers, Mrs Della Trice and Mrs Emma Egbert. L M Winstead, Owensboro, a retired Baptist minister and for many years a resident of Madisonville, died in Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital Friday morning after an extended illness. He was 84. The Rev. Winstead, a native of Webster county, had been a resident of Owensboro for more than twenty years. A graduate of the Louisville Baptist Theological Seminary, he had held pastorates at Sugar Grove, Herrin, Little Zion, Dixon, Corinth, Pleasant Ridge and Manitou from 1926 until his retirement three years ago. He was a member of the Daviess-McLean Baptist Association. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am Monday at the James H Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro, with the Rev. J D Butler, pastor of New Hope Baptist church, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Frank Sweeny, pastor of Owensboro Baptist Church. Interment will be in Odd Fellows cemetery in Madisonville, at approximately 1 pm Monday. J D Woodson Rev. J D Woodson, 74, for 54 years a Baptist minister and well known throughout this country, having been a resident of Slaughters for many years, died at his home at Kuttawa Tuesday following a paralytic stroke. Funeral and interment was at Kuttawa Wednesday. He was chaplain at the Eddyville penitentiary for many years. A wife and six children survive. E G Sisk 81, retired Missionary Baptist minister, and former White Plains resident, died at 7 pm last night in his home at Dixon. He had been ill for several months. For sixty-five years the Rev. Sisk had been preaching in Western Kentucky Baptist churches. Surviving are three sons Dr. W K Sisk, Belton, Texas; K P Sisk, Dixon, and Ray Sisk, Sturgis; seven grandchildren ten great-grandchildren; three brothers, Hardy Sisk, Dixon; Leslie Sisk, Sheffield, Ala, and Vernon Sisk, Cincinnati, and a sister, Mrs Della Clark, Dixon. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Thursday in Little Zion church, Dixon, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. W P Winstead, 72, Missionary Baptist minister many years, died at 7:15 o'clock Wednesday morning at his home here following an illness of eleven months. The Rev. Winstead, who was pastor of the Vanderburg Baptist church, had been active in his ministerial work until stricken with illness. Surviving are the widow, Norah; three daughters, Mrs Mae Brooks, Dixon, Mrs Hubert Overby, Slaughters, and Mrs Eldon Owen, Dixon; two sons, William Winstead, Slaughters, and Curtis Winstead, Madisonville, and by ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Vanderburg church, the Rev. E G Sisk, of Madisonville, officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery.
