Mattie's Scrapbook of Obituaries, page 26 Elder Beshear, Dawson Springs Minister, Dies Elder E M Beshear, 61, who had been in the Primitive Baptist Church ministry for thirty-five years, died in his home at Dawson Springs at 8:30 pm Monday following two years of ill health. Elder Beshear, who had been pastor of various Primitive Baptist churches in Indiana and Kentucky during his ministerial career, retired from the ministry last December because of ill health. He underwent an operation two years ago and had been in declining health since that time. Funeral Wednesday Surviving are the widow, Mrs Charlene Beshear; six children; Mrs Robert Miller, Mrs Harold Hook, Mrs Joe Showers, all of Cynthiana, Ind., Charles Beshear, Evansville, and Russell Beshear and Eddie Beshear, both of Dawson Springs; a brother, Fred Beshear, Dawson Springs; half brother, Morris Beshear, Detroit; and two sisters, Mrs B F Dame, Madisonville, and Mrs Henry Davis, Tiffan, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday in Dawson Springs Primitive Baptist church, with Elders J D Shain, Madisonville, and Aaron Reeder, Ledford, Ill. officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from Wednesday noon until the funeral hour. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery. Rosedale Cemetery, Dawson Springs, Ky Charlena Beshear, 1882-December 19, 1965 Elder E M Beshear, 1886-1947 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Markus Bowles Markus David (Uncle Mark) Bowles, of the West Hanson country, died last Saturday, death being due to infirmities of old age. At the time of death Uncle Mark was 74 years old. He came to Hopkins county about 1866, from North Carolina, and located in the West Hanson country where he has since resided. He was a man that always took an active interest in all public questions and especially county politics. He was a democrat and active in every campaign. He had been a member of the Baptist church for many years. He was perhaps as well known as any farmer in the county, and a man that made friends wherever he went and was loved for his kind disposition and friendly manner. He was married twice, his first wife being Miss Elizabeth Buchanan, and to this union there are four children living. His last wife was Miss Nancy Henry, who survives. Besides the wife and four children, three brothers survive. The funeral was held Sunday at Olive Branch Church, and over five hundred friends were present to pay their respects to their devoted friend, who had answered the last call. Brother J P Clayton of the Anton country, had charge of the ceremonies. Internment followed at Olive Branch cemetery. Many Prominent and well Known People Pass Away in Madisonville and Nearby Places Wallace Barron, a well known and highly respected citizen of Nebo, died Sunday afternoon of pneumonia following a five days illness. Mr Barron married a daughter of H R Cox deceased and a sister to Mrs S H Sights of this place. He was a rural mail carrier on route two out of Nebo and was a man who was held in high esteem by his many friends. Interment was at the Nebo cemetery Monday afternoon. He is survived by his wife and nine children, all of whom were ill when he died. Members of the family said he had not complained of being ill. Surviving are the widow, Mrs Margaret Buchanan; two daughters, Mrs Clarence Webster, 606 South Seminary, and Mrs Joe Dickerson, Madisonville route two; four brothers, Louis Buchanan, Ernest Buchanan, and Roy Buchanan, all of Madisonville; Ira Buchanan, Bisbee, Arizona; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rites 2 PM Saturday Mrs Buchanan had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church for many years. He had been seriously ill of influenza two weeks. Mr Beeny, who retired as a farmer twenty-three years ago, had been a member of the Primitive Baptist church forty years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs Annie Beeny; eight children, Jailer G T Beeny, Ellis Beeny, Amos Beeny, all of Madisonville; Patrolman Elmer Beeny, Earlington; John Beeny, Holly Hill, Fla; Mrs John Haley, Evansville; Mrs Clayton; a large number of grandchildren and great- grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

After a few days illness at her home between Slaughters and Vanderburg. She was 76 years, 8 months and 26 days old at the time of her death. Her husband, W H Brown, and three children have preceded her to the better land. Mrs Brown was well and favorably known and was loved by all who knew her. She was a good and kind woman, a loving and affectionate mother and will be sadly missed by all. She leaves eleven children, six girls and five boys; nine grand children, one brother and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss, but our loss is heaven's gain. Madisonville, Ky, Jan 23 (AP)--Sergeant Tommy Brown, 35, of the Kentucky national guard, drowned while on flood duty in Pond river near Slaughters, Ky. today. The motor boat in which he and three companions, Second Lieut. J L Moore, assistant postmaster here; Private C W Anthony, and Emmet Ashby, a teacher at Friendship school, capsized when the outboard fell off. His companions, who swam to shore suffered from exposure. They had gone to a flood marooned school house to get some of Ashby's possessions. Brown, a butcher, was a member of headquarters company of the Kentucky national guard. He is survived by his widow and one child. The body had not been recovered tonight. Madisonville, Ky, Oct 19--J W Beymer, 41, pharmacist at the Parish drug store here, died suddenly at 3:45 pm today. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Elks lodge and Woodmen of the World. Mr Beymer was born at Slaughters and moved to Madisonville fourteen years ago. He is survived by his widow, Mrs Ruth Beymer; his father, W E Beymer, Madisonville; four brothers, Walter Beymer and James Beymer, of Providence; Texal Beymer, of Akron, and Willis Beymer, of Madisonville; and one sister, Mrs Kathleen Key, of Milwaukee.
