DUNCAN Editor of the Dixon Journal Dead in Bed at His Home Tuesday Morning The announcement of the death of Victor D Duncan, age 41, editor and publisher of the Dixon Journal, came as a severe shock to his many friends at Sebree and throughout the county. He had been a sufferer of asthma for several years, and was stricken with another attack on last Saturday, but was thought to be improving Monday night. His wife went to see about him about 3 o'clock Tuesday morning and found him lifeless. Born in Dixon in July 1889, Mr Duncan had been identified with the Dixon Journal more than 20 years. In 1913 he became part owner with Clarence Givens and three years later purchasing the Givens' holdings gained full control which he had since retained. He was married to Miss Jewell Johnson, sister of County Supt. T W Johnson, in June 1926, who with an 18 months old son, Thomas Dorris, survives. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs Malinda Duncan; two sisters, Mrs J F Porter and Miss Mary Duncan, of Dixon, and four brothers, Dr R C Duncan at Poole; Dr V D Duncan, Mt Sterling; Dr H L Duncan, Winchester, and Charles Duncan at Paducah. Funeral services were held from the residence at 10:30 Wednesday morning by Rev. W H Funderburg, pastor of the Christian church in Madisonville. Burial in the Dixon cemetery. Tuberculosis caused the death of David Daniel, 60 years old, of the Nebo country Thursday afternoon after a long illness. He is survived by his widow. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon and interment was in Union cemetery, near Nebo. Sunday, several minutes after she suffered a heart attack in the home of her brother, Marshall Cates, Nebo rfd 1, whom she was visiting. Surviving are the brother at whose home she died, and four more brothers, Councilman Dan Cates, Madisonville; J H Cates, Claud Cates, Nebo, and Virgil Cates, Nortonville. David Daniels, 1864-1924 Mollie, wife of David Daniels -------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAY FUNERAL SERVICES AT CHURCH HERE Funeral services for Jodie Day, 67, proprietor of Hotel Madison Barber Shop here and a prominent church leader, who died at 12:30 pm Wednesday at his home, 260 South Daves street, were conducted at 2 pm today at Madisonville First Baptist church. Officiating was the Rev. Harold D Tallant, church pastor. Burial was in Odd Fellows cemetery. Active pallbearers were Virgil Beeny, Lloyd Smith, Jasper Allison, Otho Tippett, Leslie Clayton, Wallace Compton, Virgil Compton and Robert Daniel. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the Madisonville First Baptist church, including Joe Leasure, J D Anderson, S G Collins, T C O'Bryan, O M Kington, Jeff Russell, M R Hatley, Harper Gatton, C I Henry, Paul E Slaton, John Larkin, James Prow, Claude Allen, Dr J E Taylor and Thomas C Arnold. Mr Day, a deacon of the First Baptist church here for many years, died following a lingering illness. He was a former Hanson resident and had lived in Madisonville for forty years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs Martha Day, three children, Tom Day, Evansville; Noah Day, Lone Day, Dixon, and two sisters, Mrs Nan McLean, Providence, and Mrs Queen Penn, Evansville. Funeral was conducted at 10 am today in Oakley Home church, Rev. C J Carroll, Earlington, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 o'clock at Providence church near Hanson. The Rev. C J Carroll will officiate. Manitou, Ky., June 22-- (Special)-- Mrs Lanie Daniels, 60 years old, living near here, died at two o'clock Thursday, afternoon of paralysis. She was first stricken with measles and the paralytic stroke followed. The deceased is a widow and is survived by one child, Mrs Ella Lutz, of the Manitou section. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist church. Funeral services will be held to day, Rev. J D Shain, of Madisonville, officiating. Interment will be in the Daniel burying ground, near the home of the deceased. Surviving are the widow, Mrs Jennie Jones; two sons, Edwin and Henry Jones Jr., both of Slaughters route 1; two daughters Miss Iola Jones, Slaughters route 1, and Mrs Curtis Carver, Slaughters; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs Oscar Oakley, Slaughters, and a brother, Larry W Jones, Slaughters. Funeral arrangements had not been announced this morning. The body is at the Tapp Funeral Home at Dixon.
