Matties Scrapbook of Obituaries, page 31 RETIRED DENTIST-- Dr. Ray, 87, Dies Dr. Leslie G Ray, 87, prominent retired Madisonville dentist, died in his home at 34 West Noel avenue at 1:15 am today from a heart attack. Dr. Ray had been in ill health since October of 1962, suffering from a bronchitis-asthma condition, and his condition had taken a sudden turn for the worse yesterday. Dr. Ray had retired from active practice here in January of 1958. Born January 18, 1876, in Livingston county, he was the son of the late Charles and Sarah Foster [line cut off] and pioneer citizens of that area. He attended the public schools of his native county and also studied at Hampton Academy near Smithland. With Dr. Hardin His duties and interests were associated with the farm until he prepared for his professional career at the School of Dentistry of the University of Louisville, graduating with the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1905. Dr. Ray practiced for one year in Princeton, Ky., and later located in Madisonville, forming a partnership with the late Dr. E B Hardin. This association continued until Dr. Hardin's death in 1941. Dr. Ray then continued his practice in his South Main offices until his retirement in 1958. Dr. Ray was affiliated with First Methodist Church. He was a member of the National Dental Association, the Kentucky Dental Association and the West Central Dental Association, of which he was past president. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, Knights-Templar, Rizpah Shrine, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and was a charter member of the Madisonville Country Club. Dr. Ray was married in December of 1908 to Miss Betty Duley, who survives. There were no children of this union. Rites 4 P.M. Wednesday In addition to Mrs Ray, survivors include a brother, E S Ray, of Hampton; three nieces, Mrs Ernest Casper, Hampton; Mrs. Lloyd Danield, Burna, Ky., and Mrs Helen Smith, of St. Louis; and two nephews, Dunn Ray, US Air Force, and Kenneth Ray, Smithland. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 pm Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harry A Pullen Jr., pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. The body will remain at the funeral home.
