He was the son of Jeremiah and Sally Morris Sparks of Jackson County. He married Amanda Gilliam who was born in Scott County, Va. J.R. and Amanda Sparks moved to Garrard County in 1894. They first lived in the Wolf Trail area of Garrard County. Later, they purchased a farm on Buckeye Pike in the Gunn's Chapel area. In the 1920's they opened a country store, known as Sparks Store. They operated this general store until 1945. Due to their age and health, they sold the farm and store to Mr. and Mrs. Earl Glenn, and moved to Lancaster. J.R. Sparks died May 27,1946, and Amanda Sparks died March 13,1951. They both are buried in the Lancaster Cemetery. J.R. Sparks was a Baptist, and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Their children were: Rebecca Sparks Gay, Claude Sparks, Lillie Sparks Doolin, Ida Sparks Casey, Zella Sparks (Hicks)Craig, Clorris Sparks, Jennie Sparks Masters, and Clarence Sparks. Most all the Sparks children lived in Garrard County, and there are several descendants living in Garrard Couty today. Additional Comments: Note: J.R. and Amanda Sparks were my gt.gt. grandparents.
