In January 1856, Jeremiah Sparks married Sally Morris. On Oct.10,1861, Jeremiah Sparks enlisted in the Union Army at Estill Springs, in Co.G-8th Regiment of Ky. Foot Volunteers. He was honorably discharged May 22,1862 at War Trace, TN., due to a medical disability due to typhoid fever. Jeremiah and Sally Sparks lived on Doe Creek in Jackson County, and had 12 children: 1.John Riley Sparks (married Amanda Gilliam) 2.Vincent "Jeff" Sparks (married Elizabeth Morris) 3.Edna Jane Sparks (married Leander Nunn) 4.Armilda Sparks (married Wm. Anderson) 5.Malinda Sparks (married Alexander Morris) 6.Isaac Canada Sparks 7.Merrill Sparks (married 1.Sarah Dickson and 2nd Rachel Harrison) 8.Fanny Sparks (married Samuel Welch) 9.James Sparks (married Margaret Hatfield) 10.Daniel Sparks (died young) 11.Hannah Sparks (married Abijah Spurlock) and 12.Nancy Sparks (married Isaac Isaacs). Jememiah Sparks owned about 800 acres of land in Jackson County. Jeremiah Sparks gave the land where the Pilgrims Rest Church and cemetery are located. Jeremiah and Sally Sparks are buried at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, along with many others of the Sparks family.
