There are three of us who are transcribing this 136 page hand written document to make it freely available to genealogists and to anyone who is trying to trace their family's roots. Can anyone tell us more about exactly what this "Certificate of Slave" is. We do know that T.&J. Arterburn was a slave trading company operating in Jefferson County in the late 1850s and early 1860s. Any helpful information or historical context regarding this document will be greatly appreciated. The example below is one of many dozens drawn up in Jefferson County and recorded in the record book we are transcribing.
