Rev. B.F. Atkinson Dies, Aided New Churches A retired Methodist minister who gave thousands of dollars to help new organized churches, the Rev. B. F. Atkinson, died yesterday at his home, 7 Maple Court. Mr. Atkinson, 82, retired in 1941 after 48 years in the ministry., during which he served several pastorates here. In 1948 Mr. Atkinson was identified as the donor of $11,700, to help finance new churches of the Louisville Conference of the Methodist Church. He had requested that his name not be revealed. A member of the family estimated that the minister's total donations for churches amounted to at least $25,000. Bishop W. T. Watkins of the Louisville Conference of the Methodist Church said the minister's salary never exceeded $3,000 a year. When his gifts were first disclosed, Mr. Atkinson said the money came from investments made from offerings at churches where he had conducted revival services. He had said that he made the gifts out of a "deep love for the Methodist Church and the Kingdom of God." At various times he held pastorates at Oakdale, Marcus Lindsey, West Broadway, Calvary Park, and Hazelwood Methodist Churches here. He was at Hazelwood when he retired. For many years he served on the Board of the old Methodist Evangelical Hospital here. The Taylor County native, who attended Vanderbilt University, was the author of four books; "The Life Ministry of B.F. Atkinson," "The Revelation of Jesus Christ," "The Millenium A Necessity," and "Moses, John, and Christ, The Famous Baptizers." Surviving are his two daughters, Mrs. E.M. Custis, and Mrs. O.R. Sands; a sister, Mrs. W.G. Gil???, Campbellsville, Ky.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
