Bowles The uncertainty of this life and the ever present imminence of death were again impressed on the minds of Jeffersontown residents, Wednesday morning, when the news was sent through the town that J.C. Bowles, prominent business man locally, was found dead in his bed about 5 o'clock that morning. Mr. Bowles had seemed in normal health, Tuesday; had gone about his daily tasks even driving into the city in the afternoon, returning about 8 o'clock when all seemed well. He and Mrs. Bowles retired as usual and the wife noted nothing unusual in Mr. Bowles' behavior at any time during the night, so quietly did the death angel make his call. That he had been present at all indeed was only discovered when Mrs. Bowles at about 5 o'clock found her companion still sleeping, this time in the sleep of death. James Commodore Bowles, who was 65 years old, came to Jeffersontown with his family about 30 years ago from Rochester, Ky., and since this time has identified himself with Jeffersontown and its interests and has been a successful man in business circles having at different times been stock trader, realtor, and coal dealer--the last named being his occupation at time of death. He was a member of the Jeffersontown Christian Church and also the local lodge of Masons. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ella Willis Bowles; three sons, George, James and Chester Bowles--George and Chester being owners and managers of a garage and Aetna service station here, while James is clerk of the Criminal Court in Louisville--and one sister, Mrs. Mary Hays of Rochester. The funeral was conducted this Thursday afternoon at the Jeffersontown Christian Church, at 3 o'clock by the minister, Albert W. Farmer, assisted by Walter E. Lawrenson, of the Beargrsss Christian Church and H.S. Gillette with Mrs. George R. Adams as soloist. Burial with Masonic rites were in Resthaven Cemetery.
