Crutcher Burial: St. Louis Cemetery on 21 Jan 1925 Undertaker: Schildt & Sons. Additional Comments: Gottfried HENNING (Godfrey on most US records) immigrated from Germany in 1852. He was a shoemaker. He married Barbara MATHIS (Mathias on one record) April 25, 1857 in Louisville, KY. They had five children in Louisville: Bertha E. HENNING MANNION (1860-1952 who moved to Neenah, WI and, subsequently, to Kalamazoo, MI), Emma H. HENNING STEVENSON (1865-1939), Mary G. HENNING WALTER (1866-1924), George J. HENNING (1867-abt.1952 who moved to Leadville, CO), and M. Louise HENNING (1870-1976). By 1887, Godfrey had followed his son, George, to Leadville, Colorado where he opened a shoemaker shop. It appears that he returned to Louisville for a short time - perhaps to bury his wife in 1897 (she is buried in Louisville, but there is no record of her death). Godfrey returned to Leadville where he is found in the 1900 and 1910 census with his son, George. By 1920, he had returned to Louisville and was living with his daughter Emma. He is buried in St. Louis Cemetery, Section O, Lot 61 W 1/2. His gravestone says: "Godfrey Henning -- Father." Godfrey is in the same plot with his wife, Barbara, and daughters, Louise and Mary.
