The funeral of Mrs. Anna Weibel Hummel, wife of Editor C.A. Hummel of The Jeffersonian was conducted from the Jeffersontown Methodist Church at 2:30 Monday afternoon and burial was in Resthaven Cemetery. The funeral services were in charge of the pastor,Rev. M. L. Dyer, assisted by Rev. Charles W. Grant, of Frankfort, a former pastor and friend of the family. Mrs. William Jasper was soloist. Mrs. Hummel passed away Saturday at 3 p.m. after a fight of many months against the dread disease, cancer, she having submitted to an operation in 1938 which at the time seemed successful. Later symptoms, however, proved more malignant. The crowded church and profusion of lovely flowers Monday were mute evidences of the esteem in which Mrs. Hummel was held by all who knew her. Gentle and quiet, she was devoted to her family and to her church. A courageous helpmate and a splendid mother, she possessed a heart that embraced not only her very own, but an orphan nephew, an aged father-in-law and other members of the family connection, who needed love and care, as well; all coming in alike for a share of her tender solicitude. In her church and club work she, although modestly self-effacing, was a leader nevertheless filling with efficiency any place where there was a demand for her services. Cut off just in the prime of life, Mrs. Hummel was only 51 years old and a quiet family party had joined the husband at her bedside in celebration of their silver wedding anniversary but afew days before her death. Survivors besides her husband are a son, William W. Hummel, who is connected with his father in business; two daughters, Miss Elisabeth, a teacher in the Cochran School, of Louisville, and Miss Sarah, a member of the present senior class at Jeffersontown High School. There is also a sister, Miss Elise Weibel, of Louisville, and a brother, Alexander R. Weibel, of Pittsburgh, Pa. The associates of Mr. Hummel in The Jeffersonian office joined the many other friends over Jefferson and adjoining counties in extending to him and his famiy sincere sympathy in this great bereavement.
