Retired Railroader Dies After Illness George Hartman, 2806 W. Franklin St. a retired railroader, died Saturday after nine weeks illness. He was 69 and had been with the L. & N. Railroad for 48 years before retiring Sept. 30, 1945. Mr. Hartman started to work July 1897, in the Howell Shops as a laborer in freight car repair. The following year he was made a freight car repairman and in 1904 was transferred to Earlington, Ky., af foreman. Two years later Mr. Hartman returned to the Howell Shops as foreman. He was made general car foreman in 1919, a position he retained until his retirement. Survivors are: wife, Nellie; daughters, Mrs. Fred Rommel, Mrs. Ed Sauer, Mrs. Wyble Ellaby; sons, George and Charles, all of Evansville; sisters, Mrs. Fred Kunter, Mrs. William Ripplemeier and Mrs. J.B. McMillen. The body is in Alexander Funeral Home for funeral at 2 p.m., Monday. The Rev. T.L. Haas will officiate. Burial in Locust Hill Cemetery.
