ROSS, who lived at 1764 W. Hill was off duty inspecting his tenant farm through which the Southern tracks run, according to Deputy Coroner Joseph K.. MURPHY. He many have crawled under a freight car on a spur and stumbled in front of the eastbound engine, MURPHY said. He gave a verdict of accidental death. The engineer, O. J. BROWN, 53 new Albany, told County Police Sgt. Jewell AHRROD he saw something lying across the tracks 600 feet ahead. BROWN sounded his horn and applied his brakes but failed to stop in time, HARROD quoted him as stating. BROWN was charged with manslaughter. ROSS's sister Mrs. Kate FRALIECH, lives near ROSS' farm police saide. The body was taken to MEYER's Chapel at Jeffersontown.
