Mr. Samuel Ray, prominent in the tobacco trade of this city, died yesterday from the effedts of a second attack of the grip at his home, 729 Fifth Street. He was a native of Monroe county, Ky. In 1866 he came to this city and became a member of the tobacco firm of Ray, White and Co. Messrs. Hare and White were the other members. They established the Louisville Tobacco Warehouse. Mr. R. P. Hare, a son of his former partner, and son-in-law of Mr. Ray, became associated with him later in the establishment of the Falls City Warehouse. They were afterward bought out by McLeod, Scott and Son. Mr. Ray retired for a short time, after whaich he founded the Crescent Warehouse, in which he was interested at the time of his death. He leaves a wife and four children, Mrs. R. P. Hare, Miss Verda Ray, Samuel Ray, Jr., and Eugene H. Ray, the sons being in the tobacco business."
