The Groceryman Dies From the Gun Shot Wounds Inflected by Michael SENG Joseph SCHARDEIN, who was shot New Years day by Michael SENG, died yesterday morning at 4:10 o'clock. At the Coroner's inquest yesterday afternoon the evidence of seven witnesses was against SENG, and the jury found a case of willful murder against him. SCHARDEIN lived on the Seventh-street road, one mile beyond the railroad crossing. SENG was a distant relative, and the men were close neighbors. For four years there had existed a grudge between them, and, although they never had any serious trouble, there was a deep-seated hatred on both sides. SENG and SCHARDEIN attended a country dance New Year's eve. The following morning SENG came to SCHARDEIN'S grocery. The quarrel was renewed and SENG invited the grocer to come outside. As SCHARDEIN passed through the door he received a bullet in the chest, and after he had fallen another entered the abdomen and a third passed through the right leg. The wounded man lingered until yesterday morning, when he died, leaving a wife, but no children. After the shooting SENG came to the city and surrendered himself to Capt. DALY. He was charged with malicious shooting, but yesterday it was changed to murder. SENG claimed self-defense.
