Wells A retired barber, James C. Wells, 79, died yesterday at St. Joseph Infirmary after stabbing himself in the chest Sunday, Deputy Coroner Harry Elstone reported. He said Wells had been despondent. The aged man was found unconscious in a field near his home at 4885 Charlotte Drive, with a paring knife wound near his heart. He operated a barber shop at Taylorsville for many years before coming to Louisville and retired in 1950. He is survived by a son, William R. Wells; daughters, Mrs. Walter Chadock, Parkersburg, W. Va.; Mrs. Sigmund Sachick, Miss Kathryn Wells, and Mrs. Margaret Carver; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be hled at 3 p.m. tomorrow in Taylorsville.
