Fred Myers, 73, a funeral director in the Middletown and Jeffersontown area for 43 years, died at 9:30 a.m. yesterday in his office in Jeffersontown. He had been ill for about two years and was confined to a hospital for a lengthy period last year. He suffered a heart attack a few minutes after an associate took him to his office. For many years Myers was associated with N. R. Blankenbaker. Later he operated funeral homes both at Jeffersontown and Middletown. He lived in Jeffersontown. Myers was active in civic work and for several years he was chief of the volunteer Fire Department at Jeffersontown. He led the campaign to get a modern Fire Station and Municipal Headquarters. He also served as a trustee, secretary, and treasurer of Jefersontown Cemetery. He was a past master of Jeffersontown Masonic Lodge and a member of Jeffersontown Christian Church and national, state, and local funeral directors associations. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma Bruner Myers; a daughter Mrs. Mabel Roemele, and two grandsons, who have been operating their grandfather's business for the past two years. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Home, Jeffersontown. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
