Pastor E.C. Stevens dies after auto wreck. Dr. E.C. Stevens, 68, Baptist pastor and leader here for 35 years, was injured fatallly at 9:a.m., yesterday when his automobile overturned five miles south of Lietchfiled, Ky. Dr. Stevens, retired pastor of Clifton Baptist Church was taken to Kentucky Baptist Hospital here, but was dead upon arrival. He had left his home here, 187 Vernon, at 5:30 a.m., to go to his farm at Beaver Dam. Apparently falls asleep. The Rev. Lester Roach, pastor of Caneyville Baptist church, who was notified at the request of Dr. Stevens, said Dr. Stevens told him he apparently fell asleep while driving. The car left U.S. 62, ran about 70 yards along the shoulder, hit a culvert, and overturned. Dr. Stevens suffered several fractured ribs and shock, according to Deputy Coroner William Kammerer. Mr. Roach helped give oxygen to Dr. Stevens on the way to the hospital. Dr. Stevens was driving a car presented to him by his congregation at the time of his retirement several months ago. Helped Found Boys Estate - He was a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a member of Long Run Baptist Association of Louisville and Jefferson County. He was one of the founders and a member of the advisory board of Kentucky Boys Estate, Westport Road. Survivors are a twin brother, Dr. Chester D. Stevens, Hazard Ky., and a sister, Dr. Winona Jones, of the faculty of Transylvania College, Lexington. The body is at Herbert Cralle Funeral Home.
