Former Local Postman Dies in Dayton OH

A report received here from Dayton, Ohio, Monday night, announced the death of Sheldon... Surles, 
former rural mail carrier out of the Jeffersontown office.  Mr. Surles, who was in his 84th year, had been 
making his home since leaving Jeffersontown a number of years ago with Mrs. Datherine Roms..., who 
was his step-daughter-in-law, at Dayton.  Death occurred there, at 2:30 p.m. Monday from a heart attack.

Mr. Surles was a native of Bourbon County Ky.  He was the first of the carriers on old No. 15 ... out of 
Jeffersontown, beginning August 15, 1902.  He retired on November 19, 1929, after having spent more 
than 27 years in the service. Funeral services were held in Dayton Wednesday afternoon.  Interment was 
made there.
