It is difficult to establish the exact location of a Baptist church in the very earliest settlement of the county near Clear creek. This was the church at which Lewis Craig frequently preached; it is near what is now known as the Jack Cunningham property, or the Fisher place. It was called Mount Moriah, and in early times was a very important burying-ground. Joel Watkins, in his diary, mentions the fact of having attended services at that point several times, and there seeing large congregations. It was established about the same time as the Ebenezer church, but the latter is undoubtedly the oldest church organization in Jessamine county.
