I Patrick Gray of the County of Jessamine and State of Kentucky Knowing the mortality of the body; Yet in perfect sounding of mind and memory; do hereby revoke all and every other will or wills heretofore made by me and constitute this my last will and testament: Item. (The following words are crossed out: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Margaret Gray the land and plantation.) My will and desire is that at my departure from this life, that my body shall be decently buried in a Christian like manner, after which my will and desire is that all my just debts be paid. Item. I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Margaret Gray the land and plantation whereon I now live during her natural or widowhood with the following exceptions. Vis: should my son Lee Gray marry before her death, my will and desire is that he said Lee Gray shall be entitled to the privileges of one half of the dwelling house wherein I now live with the privilege of the cultivation of as much of the cleared land as my executors may think necessary for him. As its my will and desire that my son Lee Gray live and divide with his mother on the plantation whereon I now live during her natural life or widowhood; to aid support the family that may be left in a helpless situation. It is my will and desire that my son Hardin Gray be sent to Scool (sic) until he completes his education, that is if my executors (hereafter mentioned) think him capable to receive a classical education; for which education my will and desire is shall be paid for after the following manner. (To wit) Item. I give and bequeath unto my two sons Hardin and Lee Gray the land plantation whereon I now live, after the death or widowhood of their mother; to be equally divided so as my son Lee Gray have the house wherein I now live, to them and their lawfull heirs forever with the following exceptions. Vis. If my son Hardin Gray should take learning and attain a classical education; its my desire that he said Hardin Gray have a certain negro Girl named Hannah; also two hundred Dollars cash to be paid by son Lee Gray together with the costs of his said Hardin Gray's education instead of the land above mentioned; which I give and bequeath the whole of to my son Lee Gray provided son Hardin Gray gets an education should my son Hardin Gray fail in getting an education its my will and desire that he have one half of my land as above directed and that when he said Hardin may marry and want to go to house keeping. And should either Hardin or Lee Gray be either disposed to sell said land its my will and desire that they give the refusal of said sail (sic) to the other brother as I wish my land to remain in the family. Item. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife a certain negro woman named Clary to her and her heirs forever with increase of her the said Clary. I also desire that my two negromen Jacob and Harry together with all my stock of every kind, crops and farming utensils also my waggon (except the stud colt) be left to the plantation for the purpose of raising and education of my children (and except the Young Ball horse) I own which I give to my daughter Magdalin Gray or any other that her mother may see come to give her together with a saddle and bridle. Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Magdalen Gray a negro girl named Mary with the horse saddle & bridle above stated; to her and her heirs forever. To Margaret Gray a negro girl named Milly to her and her heirs forever. Also a horse bridle and saddle (at this point the following words are crossed out - to be furnished from the proceeds of my estate) when ever she the said Margaret may marry or come to age of maturity this horse bridle and saddle to be furnished from the proceeds of my ____ left on the plantation. To Nancy Gray a negro girl named Moriah to her and her heirs forever with the increase of said negro also a horse, saddle and bridle when ever she may marry to furnished as the one given to Margaret. To Indiana Gray a negro girl named Lucinda & her increase to her the said Indiana Gray her & heirs forever. Also a horse saddle and bridle when ever she may marry or come to the year of maturity to furnished as those mentioned above. I have one little negro yet remaining named Inliett which I give and bequeath to my Grandchild Sarah Gray, daughter of David Gray by his said David Gray's paying fifty dollars if needed towards defraying my debts. And whereas I have three hundred dollars due me at Natchez: my will and desire is that the said $300 be appropriated towards paying my just debts (if needed) if not - I bequeath it or what may be unappropriated of it to my son William Gray, his heirs forever. Item its my will and desire that my negroman Isham and the stud colt above mentioned be sold either publickly or privately by my executors for the special purpose of discharging my debts if they should not make enough to discharge them then those other named provisions must be resorted to for their discharge otherwise not. Item I give to my son Hardin Gray my saddle horse named Teaboy also a saddle bridle to him his heirs forever. Further its my will and desire that whatever may remain of my estate unbequeathed that my beloved wife have the deposing of it among my surviving children. Item I do ordain and appoint my beloved wife Margaret Gray and my sons David Gray & William Gray my true and lawfull executors to this my last will and testament also my and neighbour John Metcalf my executors. I do hereby ordain and constitute this my last will and testament. Given under my hand & seal this fourteenth day of August in Year of our Lord One thousand and eight hundred and twelve.
