Staniford, 83, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark. She went quietly to heaven after a brief illness. Born November 16, 1922 in Boonescamp, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Ernest and Amanda (Penix) Walters. She became a member of the Little Friendship United Baptist Church in Boonescamp, Kentucky at the age of 24. Lizzie loved traveling, especially with her family. Whenever anyone talked about going on a trip, Lizzie would always say, “I’m ready to go” and “When are we leaving?” In fact, she always kept a bag packed and her hair done. Along with traveling, Lizzie loved to bake. Pies were her specialty. If there was a family function or a holiday, everyone knew Lizzie would bring the pies. Surviving are one sister, Martha Sammons of Kalamazoo, Michigan; one daughter, Helen Boyd of Mansfield; four grandchildren, James (Janice) Boyd, Jean (Robert) Collins, Joan (Michael) Young, all of Mansfield, and Donna (Dirk) Macco of Stephenson, Michigan; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Elijah Staniford, Jr.; one infant son, Elijah Staniford III; one son-in-law, James Boyd; one infant grandson; two infant great-grandsons; three brothers, Allen, Edgar, and Lee Walters; eight sisters, Stella, Lucy, and Jenney Walters, Clora Arrowood, Emma Dutton, Mary Muncie, Alice McDowell, and Alka Walters. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home conducted by Flem Arrowood and Roger Dutton. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Miami Valley Memory Gardens, Centerville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd., Newark, OH 43055.
