obituary, Manford Blanton (age 91), son of the late John N. and Delilah Blair 
Blanton, was a retired farmer and had lived in Oil Springs for most of his 
life, and he was the father of 24 children, 20 of whom were still living at the 
time of his death. He was born in Magoffin County, died October 11, 1947 in a 
local Johnson County hospital, and was buried in the family cemetery. He was 
married in 1895 to Sola Whitt, who died in 1923. They had 15 children together. 
He later married Lona Williams Blanton, and they had 9 children. He was 
survived by his 2nd wife; 13 sons, John M. Blanton (of Oil Springs), Herbert 
Blanton (Oil Springs), Hobart Blanton (Oak Hill, Ohio), Orville Blanton 
(Washington Court House, Ohio), Oscar Blanton (Franklin Furnace, Ohio), Grant 
Blanton (Galena, Ohio), Edward Blanton (Urbana, Ohio), Lewis Blanton 
(Lucasville, Ohio), Clarence Blanton (London, Ohio), Erwin Blanton 
(Wheelersburg, Kentucky), Melvin Blanton (Oil Springs), Chester Blanton (Oil 
Springs), and James Blanton (in the U.S. Army); 7 daughters, Verna Collins 
(London, Ohio), Mella Dotson (New Boston, Ohio), Zella Jackson (St. Paris, 
Ohio), Stella Salyer (Mechanicsburg, Ohio), Buretta Miller (Columbus, Ohio), 
Beatrice Butler (Springfield, Ohio), and Judy Wolf (Columbus, Ohio); 1 step-
son, Fred Jackson (Springfield, Ohio), 56 grandchildren; 70 great-
grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchildren
