Jarvie Newsome, Aged Resident, Dies Monday
Jarvie Newsome, 85, well known resident of this city, died in a local hospital 
at 8:25 p. m. Monday, October 27, following an extended illness. The son of the 
late Davenport and Arminta Hamilton Newsome, he was born in Floyd County July 
23, 1873, and had lived in this city for fifty-eight years. Surviving are four 
sons, Charlie, George and Willie Newsome, all of this city; Noah Newsome, 
Huntington, W. Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Howard May of this city; Mrs. Arthur 
Copher, Preston, Ky. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 30, 
from the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Adrian Davis as 
officiating minister. Burial will be in the Stafford Cemetery at Hager Hill.
