Surname: Brogan, Daeney, Morris Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Kenton Co. JOHN BROGAN was born in 1834 in Ireland. His father, John B. Brogan, who devoted his entire life to the single occupation of farming was a devout Catholic in religion, and died in 1843. His mother, Mary (Daeney) Brogan, who came to the United States in 1851, was a devout member of the Catholic Church, and a Christian lady, died in Iowa in 1861. John Brogan arrived in America in 1849, and what education he possesses he acquired by his own exertions at home. In 1853 he became a machinist apprentice in the shops of the C. H. & D. R. R. at Cincinnati, and after having learned the trade he was, in 1865, employed by the O. & M. R. R. Company, and worked in their shops until 1873, when they removed their shops to Seymour, Ind. Mr. Brogran for a few years resided in the State of Indiana, and while there served a term of two years in the common council of Aurora, after which he settled in Covington, Ky. He has been general foreman of the Kentucky Central Railroad shops since 1881. He is a member of two secret societies, the A. O. U. W. since 1881 and the I. O. O. F. since 1857. In 1861 he married Miss E. R. Morris, of Cincinnati, who was born in Ireland in 1839, and is a member of the Presbyterian Church. To their marriage six children has been born: Mary E., J. R., Anna L., Grace, Carrie and Minnie B.
