Date: August 12, 2002 Subject: Lula Little Bates Knott County Kentucky ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Obituaries from the Appalachian News-Express, Pike Co. Ky Lula Bates, 89, of Indian Creek, Virgie, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was born in Knott County, Jan. 10, 1910, a daughter of the late Elbert and Betty Johnson Little. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bates; two sons, Bufford Bates and Fred Bates Jr.; and one daughter, Beulah Jean Bates. She is survived by six sons, Roger Q. Bates of Jacksonville, Fla., Jimmie D. Bates of Louisville, S.J. Bates, Bobby Bates, and Walter Hall, all of Virgie, Cletus Bates of Southgate, Mich.; two daughters, Eula Mae Kovacs of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary Louise Jernigan of Louisville; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and a host of great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, in the Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, Indian Creek, with James Hobson and Robert Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel. Arrangements are under direction of R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home-Virgie Chapel of Virgie.
