MARTIN b: 16 JUN 1906 in Knox County, Kentucky According to a family account, John Dalton Martin was cutting down a tree in 1909, on his farm, when the tree fell on him pinning him to the ground by the neck. He was asphixiated so severely that permanent brain damage ensued. He was found by his wife and children, after they searched for him, due to his long absence, from home. They frantically removed him from under the tree. His condition disabled him so severely, and altered his behavior so greatly that Lucy, when John became unbearably belligerent, after four years under her care at home, was helped to have her husband admitted him to the State Hospital in Danville for care, since she was not equipped to both raise their young family, and care for her husband John. Records show that Ellen Martin, John's sister, did attempt repeatedly to have John Dalton Martin released into her care, but the Hospital administration refused her several requests. John Dalton Martin perished on March 13, 1953 Danville, Boyle County, Kentucky, and was returned for burial to the Farm he loved so much in his youth, at Arapaho Trail, in Gray, Knox County Kentucky.
