C. 6661 The record of William Holman follows as found in the papers on file in pension claim, N. C. 6661, based upon his service in the War of 1812. The date and place of soldier’s birth and names of his parents are not given. William Holman enlisted in Knox County, Kentucky, and served from April 29, 1813, to September 29, 1813, as private in Captain Ambrose Arthur’s company of Kentucky militia. It was stated that the soldier served a second tour of six months, a part of the time in Captain Moody’s company of Kentucky militia, also, that he was at the battle of the Horseshoe. In 1814 the soldier was residing near Pikeville in Bledsoe County, Tennessee. In 1851, he was a resident of Henderson County, Tennessee, and at that time gave his age as sixty-five years. He died June 13, 1857, in Henderson County, Tennessee, and was buried near his residence in the northern part of that county. William Holman married sometime prior to 1809, in Pikeville, Bledsoe County, Tennessee, Sarah Bibb. The date of her birth and names of her parents are not given. Soldier’s widow, Sarah Holman, was allowed pension on her application executed May 24, 1872, at which time she was aged seventy-seven years and residing near Adamsville in McNairy County, Tennessee, where some of her children then lived, her post office being Adamsville. She was still living there in 1874. She died August 23, 1877. The following names of children of the soldier, William Holman, and his wife, Sarah, are shown in the claim: John Holman born January 28, 1809 Sally Holman October 4, 1810 Nancy Holman January 16, 1812 Synthia Holman November 26, 1813 Jane Holman September 27, 1815 Eliza Holman June 23, 1817 William W. Holman November 26, 1819 Isaac S. Holman April 2, 1821 Elizabeth Holman October 16, 1823 Matilda A. Holman November 25, 1824 Mark Holman November 25, 1825; in 1873 living in Adamsville, Tenn. In 1872, several of the above-named children were living in the neighborhood of Milledgeville, McNairy County, Tennessee. It was stated that all of them died prior to 1875 except the two children last named, Matilda A. and Mark. Very truly yours, A. D.
