David Rad Martin was the son of John Dalton MARTIN and Lucy Frances JOHNSON, in back of whom he is buried at the Martin Cemetery. David Rad Martin's syblings were: 1.Rachel Ellen MARTIN b: 27 SEP 1891 in Gray, Knox County, Kentucky 2.James Parker MARTIN b: JAN 1895 in Knox County, Kentucky 3.Charlie MARTIN b: 15 DEC 1898 in Knox County, Kentucky 4.Creed Dalton MARTIN b: 26 MAY 1901 in Knox County, Kentucky 5.Chester Arthur MARTIN b: 24 SEP 1903 in Knox County, Kentucky 6.Samuel "Sam" A. MARTIN b: 16 JUN 1906 in Knox County, Kentucky David Rad Martin entering the US Army as a private before March 5, 1912, in and was honorably discharged as a Corporal, from the 3rd Infantry prior to December 24, 1915. David Rad Martin married Nannette “Nannie” Serena WALTERS on 24 DEC 1915 in Gray, Knox County,Kentucky. Nannie was the daughter of Parks B. WALTERS and Claredina “Callie” SEWELL. Nannette was born on 12 OCT 1898 in Pittsburg, Laurel County, Kentucky. David and Nannie fathered Vernon Eugene Martin, on September 18, 1916 and Theodore Roosevelt Martin, on November 11, 1918, both boys born in Gray, Knox County, Kentucky like there father David.. According to the December 24, 1915 Gray,Knox County, Kentucky, marriage certificate, David Rad Martin had been living in Kettle "Kittle" Island, near Straight Creek, Bell County, Kentucky, and working as a coal miner there, as of the date of his marriage, but by June 5, 1917 David had relocated to his father's John D. Martin's home in Gray, Kentucky, with wife Nannie, and son Vernon, and was working as a farmer for Clarence Donaldson. David Rad Martin became Master Mason with the 751 Cumberland Valley Lodge at Gray, Knox County, Kentucky which was a branch of Grand Lodge of Kentucky Free & Accepted Masons. David Rad Martin obtained employment Louisville and Nashville Railroad in Corbin until he fell ill in October 1918. Arriving home weak and feverish, he perished on October 22, 1918 from the 1918 flu pandemic, an unusually severe and deadly Influenza A virus strain of subtype H1N1, commonly referred to as the Spanish flu. David and Nannie’s son Theodore passed away after David’s death. Their son Vernon Eugene Martin, served in the United States Navy, from 1935 to 1956 surving several naval battles including Pearl Harbor and Tarawa action and produced four grandchildren to David's lineage, three girls and one boy. Died October 22, 1918, of the influenza epidemic (Spanish Influenza). Burial: Martin Cemetery Arapaho Trail Section of Harris Road Gray, Knox County Kentucky, USA Plot: In the middle of the cemetery.
