David Rad Martin was born on December 15, 1893, in Gray, Knox County, Kentucky, the son of John Dalton Martin and Lucy Frances Johnson. David Rad Martin enlisted in the US Army, on March 7, 1912 and was registered as Recruit No. 809, on Page 309, Register of Enlistments 1912, from Knox County, Kentucky. At enlistment he was 18 years, 2 months old, had blue eyes, dark hair, and stood at height 5'8". At completion of his service he was honorably discharged as Corporal on March 6, 1915, from Company C, 3rd U.S Infantry Regiment.* David's siblings were: 1-Rachel Ellen MARTIN, born September 27, 1891 2-James Parker MARTIN, born January 16, 1895 3-Charlie MARTIN was born December 15, 1898 4-Creed Dalton MARTIN, born May 26, 1901. 5-Chester Arthur MARTIN was born September 24, 1903 6-Samuel A. MARTIN was born June 16, 1906 David Rad Martin married Nannie Walters, the daughter of Parks B. Walters & Callie Sewell, at the home David’s parents John & Lucy Martin home in Gray, Knox County, Kentucky on December 24, 1915. Nannie bore David, two sons: Vernon Eugene Martin, on September 18, 1918. Theodore Roosevelt Martin on November 11, 1918.
