Eugene Davis Dies Suddenly In New York Versailles (Woodford County) Ky., Feb 1 (Special) -- Eugene Allen Davis, 57, president of the Woodford Bank and Trust Company since 1934, died unexpectedly about 9:30 o'clock this morning in the Central Hanover Bank and Trust Company at New York, according to word received here. Mr. Davis and his wife left Versailles Sunday for a business trip to New York, and later were to visit their daughter, Mrs. Wolford Ewalt (Betty Davis), at Niagara Falls. According to information received here, Mr. Davis had gone into the New York bank to visit one of the officials and dropped dead while seated in the office. Mr. Davis, an extensive landowner, has been prominent in local business, civic and fraternal activities for many years. He had served as chairman of the Red Cross chapter here for more than 20 years; was past worshipful master of Landmark No. 41, F. and A.M.; past high priest of Webb chapter No 6, Royal Arch Masons; past eminent commander of Versailles Commandery No. 3, Knights Templar, and was a member of Oleika Temple and was a deacon in the Christian Church. He was born Jan. 21, 1887, a son of the late John Allen Davis and Rose Lillard Davis of Woodford County. Mrs. Sally Hart Hobgood, 74, Dies Mrs. Sally Hart Hobgood, 74, Nebo, died in a Hopkinsville hospital at 9 a.m. today. Mrs. Hobgood was born in Hopkins county Dec. 7, 1882, and was a member of the Nebo Christian church. Her husband, Bert Hobgood, died in 1923. Surviving are three sons , Marlin Hobgood and Walter Hobgood, both of Nebo, and Rayburn Hobgood, Morganfield, five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Sam Crow, Nebo, and Mrs. J. B. Waltrip, of South Carolina, and a brother, Garland Hart, Nebo Route 1. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p. m. Wednesday in the Nebo Christian Church, with the Rev. Clay Hobgood officiating. Burial will be in the Union cemetery. The body was taken from Harris Funeral Home to the home of Marlin Hobgood at Nebo to await the last rites. Mr Kestner moved to Orlando, Fla, from Evansville 14 years ago. He operated a general store several years in Madisonville, Ky., and was city constable in Hopkinsville, Ky., for several years. Surviving besides Mrs. Brown are: daughters, Mrs. Lee Peyton, Harrisburg, Mrs. Cora Walker,Hopkinsville, Mrs. Nettie Calkin, Detroit, Mich., Mrs Luther Ray, Winter Park, Fla., and Mrs Isa Craig, Evansville; sons, Neal and Jesse Kestner, Evansville, and several grandchildren. Funeral services will be Sunday morning in Harrisburg. Burial will be in Madisonville.
