Burns -- Born, Harrison County, Ky I have been transcribing bios from the Goodspeed History of Harrison and Mercer Counties for the Missouri Genweb. I am passing on those with KY connections to this page. If this becomes a problem, let me know. History of Harrison and Mercer Counties, Mo, 1888, Goodspeed., page 500 B.F. Burns is a son of Tarrance and Catherine (Jackson) Burns and was born in Harrison County, Ky., in 1820, being one of a family of twelve children, seven of whom are now living. After his marriage the father moved to Nashville, where he worked at his trade, that of bricklaying. While there he built a house for General Jackson. He afterward lived in Kentucky, and then oved to Jefferson County, Ind., where he lost his wife, and was married, a second time, to Mrs. Sarah Sharp, a widow. His death occurred in that county. B.F. Burns pass his early youth upon his father's farm in Harrison County, Ky., and Jefferson County, Ind., and at the age of nineteen began life for himself as a farm laborer. For three years he worked for his brother-in-law, at $4 per month, and at the age of twenty-two married Miss Elizabeth Chambers, daughter of John Chambers, of Decatur County, Ind., after which he engaged in farming in that county three years. In 1844 he migrated to Mercer County, Mo., and five years later came to Harrison County. He then made an overland trip to California, and spent three years profitably, after which he returned home by water, where he has since resided. During the war he enlisted in Company E, Third Missouri State Militia Cavalry, serving under Col. King, a son of Gov. King. He fought Gen. Marmaduke's troops at Springfield, and was captured at Neosho. He was afterward paroled, but obliged not to take up arms again. After the war he resumed his farming, and is now the owner of a small but finely improved farm, upon which he has erected good buildings, etc. Mr. Burns lost his wife in Harrison County, by whome he had eight children, three of whom are living: Sarah E., Amanda J. and Elizabeth. Three years after the death of his first wife Mr. Burns married Rebecca J. (Barnes) Howard, who had one child by her first marriage - -- John B. Howard. Mr. and Mrs. Burns are members of the Baptist Church, as was also the first wife of Mr. Burns. He is a Republican, and a member of the G.A.R. NOTE: I am descended from Polley Chambers Blankenship, sister of John Chambers of Decatur County, Ind. John Chambers migrated to Mercer County, Mo., from Indiana. I have a lot of material on the Chambers going back to Scotland. It is from William Davis Chambers' 1925 book, The Chambers Family, Trails of the Centuries, and the work of Polli Turner of Oregon. If any of this connects, you will be interested in that, I am sure. Polley Chambers Blankenship was wife or Reverend Isaiah Blankenship. Their daughter, Elizabeth, married Reverend Chesley Woodward, b. 1797, Montgomery County, Ky., son of John and Nellie Hardwick Woodward. John Woodward was the son of Chesley Woodward, who appears on the 1788 Fayette County, KY Tax list recently posted to this list. The Woodwards of early KY migrated from Bedford County, VA and are well-documented in J. Gary Woodward's 1995 book on the Woodward Family -- for those who are interested. Reverend Chesley Woodward and son Reverend John Woodward also migrated to Mercer and Harrison Counties, Mo. Reverend Chesley Woodward lived near Ravenna, MO. Reverend John Woodward was in Harrison County near Cainsville. Reverend Chesley Woodward's brother Ralph Woodward, b. 1818, Montgomery County, Ky., also migrated to Mercer County. His wife was, Mary Chambers, sister of B.F. Burns' wife, Elizabeth Chambers (above bio). ------------------------------ From: Nancy Trice Date: Sun, 23 Mar 1997 09:21:16 -0500 Subject: KY-F: List of Lunsford in Garrard Co, 1850 LUNSFORD surname in 1850 Census, Garrard Co, Ky SURNAME GIVEN BORN Lunsford Benjamin 1797 Lunsford Daniel 1835 Lunsford Elizabeth 1843 Lunsford Elizabeth 1847 Lunsford Jane 1804 Lunsford Judith 1840 Lunsford Mary (F.?) 1833 Lunsford Nancy 1823 Lunsford Joel 1847 Lunsford William 1844 Lunsford Alexander 1830 Lunsford George A. 1849 Lunsford Jane 1816 Lunsford Wilmouth 1838 Steve Lunsford (stevelunsf@aol.com) ------------------------------ From: adoan@dot-net.net (Angela Doan) Date: Mon, 24 Mar 1997 07:13:38 -0500 Subject: KY-F: Here is part of 1850 Census-Breckinridge County Hi all, This is my first post and I hope someone can use this info!
