CROFT, 71, were conducted last Wednesday afternoon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Dempsey officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Stricken while working in the field last Tues. morning, he died at his home within a short time afterward. Born in Pope Co, IL, Mr. Croft removed to Crittenden at the age of 13. His entire life was devoted to farming and he was one of the most prominent advocates of advanced agriculture in this section. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, formerly Josie A. BEBOUT; 8 sons, Herman, Earl, Rhea and Vernon, of the county, Dee, Loyd, Reed and Oether, Livigston Co; 4 daughters, Mrs. Chester Robertson, Mrs. Orville McKinney, county, Mrs. John Milligan of Sturgis, and Miss Ona Croft of Salem; two brothers, Willie and John, both of Crittenden Co; 3 sisters, Mrs. Lula Johnson of Clay, Mrs. Anda Cooper of Salem and Mrs. T.D. A native of Christian County, early life was spent in Crofton, removing to Blackford about 55 years ago. For many years Mr. Croft ws employed by Illinois Central System, Evansville-Hopkinsville district, in charge of carpenters in bridge and building department. He was pensioned and retired in 1930. Survivors are his wife, formerly Laura MORGAN of Blackford; a daughter, Mrs. J.M. Brantley of Nashville, TN; two sons, Mayor R.W. CROFT of city, Claude CROFT of Durham, NC; two brothers, D.M. and Curtis CROFT, both of Crofton. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Blackford Methodist church with Rev. J.R. King officiating. Burial was in Princeton Cemetery. M. Brashears has shown himself entitiled to the relief sought. It is therefore adjudged by the court, that the Plaintiff L. M. Brashears be divorced from the Defendant Joannah Brashears from the bonds of matrimony, and restored to all the rights of a single and an unmarried man. Perry Co. - Brashears This is from the Monday, Oct. 4, 1938, Middletown, Ohio newspaper. Lafayette M. Brashears, 85, died at 10:50 A.M. Monday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Gentry, of 2213 Crescent Boulevard. A resident of Middletown three years, he came here from Kentucky upon retiring from farming. His wife died several years ago. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gentry, and Miss Georgia Brashears, of this city, one son, William Brashears of Danville, Ill., three grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Sally Cornett and one brother Hezzy Brashears of Irwin, Ky. He was a member of the Christian Church of Kentucky, most of his life. Arrangements for the funeral are incomplete. Tues. Oct. 5, 1938 Brashears - Lafayette M., 85, died Mon, at residence 2213 Crescent Blvd. The body will be sent to Viper, Ky, Tuesday for services and burial Wednesday. Walter N. A little late in getting it up, but I have just established the ky-footsteps directory in the archives and have placed a copy of all of the digests there, both as a txt file and a zip file. In addition, I am preparing a table of contents for each digest... sorry... it's not an index. I am also working on getting a search engine built for the archives and hopefully thatwill be available within the next month. I hope that this being placed online does not mean that you will unsubscribe from the list... please post your source material. With the search engine coming, this list becomes more important than ever as a way for us to all get our source material before the public.
