In Memory of VERDIE ANDERSON b. June 3, 1918 - d. Jan. 17, 1997 Verdie Anderson was a loving and devoted wife and mother. The gift of her life was reflected upon as her friends, relatives and neighbors visited with her family in remembrance of Verdie who died January 17, 1997. Born in Sturgis, Kentucky the daughter of Elsie and Waldon Owens, she grew up in a family of nine children. When Verdie was very young the family moved from the farm in Kentucky to Mount Vernon, Indiana. As a member of a large family, Verdie learned at a young age the importance of the hard work ethic. After completing her education, Verdie began living in Evansville, Indiana. During World War II she worked in war plants to contribute to the war effort. Verdie met a young man named Alden Anderson who was a native of Minnesota and was working on construction company on a job site in Mt .Vernon, Indiana. Verdie was a waitress at a nearby restaurant where Andy enjoyed dining. They became acquainted and their friendship blossomed into a romance and they were soon married. The happy union of the Andersons was blessed with two children, one son, Gary, and one daughter, Deborah. Verdie also had a son Joe Schnee, by a former marriage. Gary, Joe, and Deborah brought Verdie much comfort and happiness. As the years passed the Anderson's celebrated as they welcomed four grandchildren and one great grandchild into the family fold. Verdie and Andy, as he was affectionately known, were constantly grateful that their marriage was blessed with 48 years of happiness. Andy's construction job required traveling to construction sites around the country. They owned a trailer that they pulled behind their car. For seven years the Anderson's traveled far and wide around the United States. For them, it was the "best of times". They enjoyed the traveling, seeing the country and the experience of living with their own little community comprised of Andy's construction workers. After a period of time, Verdie and Andy decided it was time to settle down. They moved back to Evansville and it became home to them for the rest of their lives. Andy said; "I had a wonderful wife. She was a great wife, mother and homemaker. We did everything together. It seemed we always had the same choices." Verdie enjoyed sewing. Her daughter said: "she made all of her own clothes and she also made most of my clothes." Crocheting was also one of Verdie's favorite leisure time activities. Through the years Verdie and Andy continued to travel. Every year they visited Andy's family in Minnesota. Andy had a soft spot for his home state. Several years ago Verdie's health began to decline. Andy and their son, Gary, were her tender, loving caregivers. The family said: "Andy was so good to Verdie. He always went the extra mile in ministering to her needs." Andy's health had also deteriorated and he no longer had the strength to care for his beloved Verdie. Andy went to the nursing home to see Verdie as often as possible. His family said he went everyday, and it was not unusual for him to go two and three times a day. Verdie died peacefully after a long and happy life. We will remember Verdie for enriching oru lives nad instilling in us her spirit of living. ------------------------------ From: Rita Stanifer Maggard Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 08:24:03 -0400 Subject: KY-F: MT ECHO Part 6 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ EXCERPTS from the MOUNTAIN ECHO Laurel County's First Newspaper November 1896 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Reprinted with permission of the Laurel County Historical Society First reprinted to the LaurelCoKY Mail List-KYGenWeb ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This and other Excerpts from the Mountain Echo can be found on the Laurel County KY KYGenWeb page at: http://users.rootsweb.com/~kylaurel/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 6 DON'T WANT THE TRUTH LONDON, KY., NOV. 17. 1896 (To the) EDITOR ECHO:-As I do not wish to have anything around to interfere with my desire to live a christian life, and especially anything that may provoke profanity, so you will please stop sending your paper to me. The sound money argument of THE ECHO has the same effect upon a free silverite that the gospel has upon a sinner, so here goes to honest old Simon Bolivar BUCKNER. OAKLEY Miss Vina ALLEN of East Bernstadt is visiting relatives and friends at this place. A Methodist church of nineteen members was organized at Mt. Carmel last week. Mr. Lafayette CORNELIUS, who was teaching the public school at Mershon has gone to Knoxville, Tenn., to enter a school of dentistry, one month of his term remains untaught. November 27, 1896 JACKSON CO. Moore's Creek-Death has been visiting our neighborhood the past two weeks. First, Berry LITTLE's child was burned to death and next Old Aunt Zina CATRON, an old veteran of the cross, who was as orderly walking a member of the Methodist church as we have ever been acquainted with. We have no doubt she is resting in the Paradise of God that is prepared for the faithful. We deeply sympathize with bereaved friends. Old Uncle Emanuel ARNOLD died last week after an illness of several months. He was one of Jackson county's oldest and best citizens. He leaves a wife and a host of friends to mourn his death. Dan MOORE's wife died the 19th inst., leaving a little baby only eight days old with a number of friends to mourn her death. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rita's " Nuttin' Excitin' " Web Page ...Complete listing of my pages and lists... http://www.users.kih.net/~rmaggard/rita.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ From: Maria & Tim Troutman Date: Sun, 13 Apr 1997 21:29:36 +-200 Subject: KY-F: OWENS/KY/KS obit Mary Eveline OWENS McGraw died Aug. 7, 1963.
