Transcribed by J. Dutch Revenboer 5-1-1997 to the best of my ability. I think it is noteworthy that he spells the last name GARRARD for his sons, and GIRARD for his daughters. Also, he states "...and perfect health...", yet records indicate he dies 4 months later, September 1836. Wife mentioned is Sally SHIPP, dau. of Laban and Elizabeth SHIPP. Enjoy! BRACKEN COUNTY WILLS, Page 271, Book D. 1838 In the name of God Amen. I John M. Garrard of sound mind and perfect health, do make this my last Will and Testament First. I do bequeath to my loving wife, the farm I now live on containing 300 acres more or less except the Mill with 10 acres of land, all my stock, horses, cattle, sheep, and hogs, all my household and kitchen furniture during her natural life also a negro man Harry and Samuel and Polly which I leave to my wife during her life and after her death Harry he is to be freed, all my land in McKetrick to be sold by my _______ (abbv for Executor?) also the Mill and 10 acres to be sold, and divided equally with James Garrard, Anderson Garrard, Elizabeth Girard, Sally Girard, and Nancy Girard equally also at the death of my wife the farm and every thing left her, to be equally divided among the five above mentioned children.
