Ky Library in Williamstown Ky MOORE FAMILY Samuel Moore married in 1748 Charity Courts who was the widow of Samuel Adam. Names of only two children known---William and Henley. William Moore was born in Furquar [sic] County, Virginia in 1753. Was a revolutionary soldier - private- Lt. of the Third Virginia Regiment. Married Hannah Ransdall January 17, 1776 and died in 1818 in Kentucky Thomas Ransdall Moore was born Nov. 30, 1785 and died April 24, 1844. He married Evaline Hockaday who was born June 9, 1799 and died December 20, 1859. She was the daughter of Isaac Hockaday and his wife, Amelia Irvine. Chief Justice Marshall of Virginia was their best man at their wedding. In regard to the Battle of the River Raisin in Michigan in 1813 after the capture of (our Grandfather Thomas Ransdall Moore) and the Company he was with, the Indians began tomahawking them after they had given up their arms. Our Grandfather called to the British officer in command and asked him how a man born of woman could allow such atrocities to go on, and the British officer replied "Who are you that dare address a British officer in that manner?" he said " I am a Kentucky Volunteer," and then said "Give us back our guns and we will stop them." About that time they did manage to stop them in some way. Library at Williamstown KY This file had a little more information than the one before MARGARET ANN MOORE Margaret Ann Sanford Brann was born in Paris Ky Dec 29th 1793, the daughter of Thomas Brann and Frances Mitchell. She was married to William (C) Moore(B: 1792 in Bourbon Co., KY). They had james A.; Thomas; Margaret Ann; Joseph; Nancy and William; After the death of William Moore(July 30, 1833 in Pendleton Co., Ky), Margaret (Peggy Sr.) married robert Makemson. He also had children by his first marriage. They were both older when they married and had no children of their own. Margaret Sr. lived to be 100 years old. She is remembered by Lee makemson as having ridden side saddle on a pacing bay mare from here home to the home of her daughter Margaret Ann (Peggy Jr.) Draper. She is also remembered by the Brombacks as having risen on her 100th Birthday and made her won bed. Peggy Sr. son Tom was a distiller in Bourbon County and would bring his mother a quart of 10 year old Kentucky whisky when he came to visit. Damron, a retired miner was born in Pike County. He was a son of Robert and Rebecca Damron. He was a Regular Baptist Church minister. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Angeline Damron; five sons, Thomas Damron of Arizona, George Damron, Rt. 2 Ashland, Pete and Dan Damron, both of Yeager; four daughters, Mrs. Martha Bentley of Lamar CO, Mrs. Stella Bentley, Mrs. Oma Honaker and Miss Lillie Damron, all of Yeager. GEORGE DAMRON George Powell Damron of Millard died Wednesday, June 11, 1986 after a long fight with cancer. He was born September 5, 1917 at Yeager, a son of the late John A. and Nona Coleman Damron. He was a World War II veteran and former owner and operator of Damron T.V. Service at Millard. Survivors include one son, Roy Lee Damron of Elkhorn City; three daughters, Georgia Francis Damron, Betty Carol Illie and Stella Falay Patrick, all of Millard. Three brothers, Richard Damron of Lexington, Daniel Damron and Pete Damron, both of Yeager; three sisters, Martha Bentley of Lamar CO, Oma Honaker and Lillie Tackett both of Yeager; four grandchildren, George Illie and Angela Leigh Patrick, both of Millard, Roy Michael Damron and Matthew Gene Damron, both of Elkhorn City. Services were held Friday, June 13, at 3 p.m. at Justice Funeral Home, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating. Burial followed at O.T. Hinton Mausoleum at Johnson Memorial Park of Pikeville. MRS. EASTER LOWE March 6, 1969 PHYLLIS - Mrs. Easter Justice Lowe, 73, of Phyllis, died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Unit To, after a long illness. She was the wife of Sam Lowe who survives. Born at Phyllis, she was a daughter of Isaac Justice and Rebecca Honaker Justice. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. GUSTA MORRIS (HELMS) MAY 2, 1985 McANDREWS, Ky - Gusta Morris Helms, 83, of McAndrews, died at her home Sunday. Born March 24, 1902 in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late K.B. and Matilda (Jane) Ramey Morris. She was married to the late V.E. "Bill" Helms. She was a member of the Belfry Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Zelma H. Williamson of Roanoke, Va., and two sons, Carlenus Helms of Louisville, Ky.., and Ervin Helms of bossier City , La. She is also survived by a brother, Victor Morris of Columbus, Ohio; four sisters, Louise Hall and Jettie Collins of Pikeville, Ky, Mrs. Nancy Allen of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. Legler (really Lealer) Maynard of Lexington, Ky., six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Morris and Matilda (Jane) Ramey Morris. A retired miner, he was a memer of the Primitive Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Betty Collins Morris.
