Sturgis, Union County, Kentucky, Wednesday, June 11, 1997, Number 24. Obits on page 2. JOHN W. BACK John W. Back, 76, Sturgis, died Wednesday, June 4 at 6:50am, at Union County Methodist Hospital. Mr. Back was of Baptist faith, retired coal miner, and a 38 year member of Nortonville Masonic Lodge #602. Survivors include his wife, Lois Back; two daughters, Diana Owens, and Sharon DeMoss, both of Sturgis; one son, Danny Back of Sturgis; two sisters, Mary Somers of Mannington, and Margaret Naylor of Eldorado, IL; two brothers, Lonnie Back of Mannington, and Onnie Back of Nortonville, KY; four grandchildren, Randy Owens, Kristie Slaton, Brandon Back and Brittany Back, all of Sturgis; and one great grandchild, Dalton Slaton also of Sturgis. Services were at 2pm Friday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. Clifton Vandiver officiating. Burial was in Grangertwon Cemetery. BOYD E. CURRY Boyd E. Curry, 70, Waverly, died Tuesday, June 3rd at 10:15am at his residence. Mr. Curry was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly. Survivors include his wife, Arletta C. Curry, one daughter, Shirley A. Curry of Henderson; four sons, Thomas E. Curry of Morganfield, Wilie I. Curry of Henderson, Remus E. Curry of Carrier Mills, IL, and Mark A. Curry of Henderson' three sisters, Martha Houston, Gertrude Smith and Mary E. Smith, all of Waverly; two brothers, Leo Curry and Joe Curry, both of Waverly; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Services were at 10:00am at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly with Fr. Anthony Zeigler officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery in Waverly. RASHAUD J. ALLEN Rashaud J. Allen, 7 month old son of Melissa Small and Russel J. Allen of Henderson died at 4:52 am Sunday at Community Methodist Hospital. Survivors in addition to the parents include one brother, Raekwon Allen at home; his grandparents, Virginia J. Small of Reed and David Huebner of Reed; and his great grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. James Perry of Henderson and Mr. & Mrs. Jimmie Roberson of Morganfield. Services will be 10am today at Benton - Glunt Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery. Friends may call today after 8am until funeral time. MARY RAY Mary Ray, 93, of Evansville, formerly of Caseyville, died Saturday at Boonville, IN Convalescent Center. She was preceded in death by her brother James A. Ray of Sturgis in April 1997. She retired in 1970 after 40 years at the Fendrich Cigar Factory. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Services were at 10am Tuesdsay at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, Monsignor Kenneth R. Knapp officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Church building fund. ALICE WALKER RAY Alice Walker Ray, 82, formerly of Sturgis, died May 30. Mrs. Ray graduated from Sturgis High School and while living here, she was a member of the First Christian Church of Sturgis. Survivors include two daughters, Vivian Hicks and Patricia Turne; and one son, James Ray; grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Services were Monday, June 2 at the First Christian Church in St. Ann, MO. THOMAS F. MOREHEAD Thomas F. Morehead, 80, Sturgis, died Tuesday at 8:10am at the Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg, IL. Mr. Morehead was a member of the United States Methodist Church in Sturgis. Survivors include one niece, Pam Cambron of Rocky Mountain, NC; one sister Martha Williams; and one brothers, James Edgar Morehead, both of Sturgis. Services will be at 2pm Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. Jeff Carter officiating.
