Hopkins County Court Clerks Office Deed Book 12, page 228 Will of Washington Chandler I, Washington Chandler of Hopkins County, State of Kentucky, being of sound mind and disposing memory, being desirous of disposing of all such estate that has pleased God to bless me with, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form as I will here after name. 1st my will and desire is soon as my departure from this life, all my just debts and burial expenses be paid, out of such portion of my estate suitable for that purpose. 2nd. Taking into consideration that I have given to my son Steven M. Chandler and Sarah Jane Shelton (Sarah his daughter) more property than I will ever be able to give to my other four children, I leave them nothing. 3rd. Where as when me and my beloved wife ws married and brought our stock and other property together, our portion was about equal of stock and everything else, after my death and all my just debs are settled, that all there remaing part of my estate, cash and cash notes if any should be on hand, except my house and furniture which is to remain with my wife as long as she remain on the premises, should she at any time desire to break up, she is to keep one half of the house and furniture and the balance to go to my four children herein named equal divided James M Chandler, William M Chandler, Mary Ann Hopgood, and Rebecca Mitchell heirs, giving my wife one half, one half to my four children named above. 4th. She was born December 7, 1919, in Kentucky, the daughter of Garrett and Lucy (Childers) Mills. On December 28, 1942, she married Dale Kern, who died in 1950. On September 5, 1957, she married William G. Way, who died in 1968. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Annabelle Batson; one brother, Tip Mills; one step-son; and one step-daughter. She is survived by two sons: Larry Kern of Bedford and William Way of Indianapolis; five step-sons; four step-daughters; six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. The daughter of Luther and Ida (Whitehead) Howard, she was born on January 18, 1921, in Harlan Co., KY. She married William Ward on September 7, 1963, and he survives. Mrs. Arnold, active and alert, looks after her home, works in her garden and gives personal care to her chickens every day. She has spent her entire life in Woodford and lived on their farm on the Troy pike during her husband's lifetime. Since 1920 Mrs. Arnold has occupied her home on the outskirts of Versailles on the Tyrone pike. Four splendid children and her grandchildren are her pride. Three sons are J. Shepperd, Sr. of Bedford, died Monday, June 23, 1997, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. The son of John Burton and Mary Elizabeth Shepperd, he was born September 13, 1924, in Adair County, KY. He married Sandra Perry on January 21, 1971, and she survives. Surviving in addition to the wife are six daughters: Laura Shepperd and Kathy Harvey, both of Indianapolis, Gwen Norman, Jacqueline Rollins, Karen Dalton, and Deanna Stalder, all of Bedford; two sons: Donnie Perry and Rusty Shepperd, Jr., both of Bedford; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; four brothers: Ovel Burton and Marvin Burton, both of Edin- burg, IN, Al Burton of Dilley, TX, and Gordon Shepperd of Indianapolis; two sisters: Ella Vincent of Bedford, and Rose Petree of Jamestown, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
