Pat Lowery Koetting - New Mexico - ------------------------------------------ BROWN, EMERY, FLETCHER, KEW, LOWERY, LOWRY, LUNSFORD, MATHEW, MORSE, NORTHENT, ORDWAY, POOR, RIAL, ROBISON, SCRIBNER, SMITH, TAYLOR, WERTZ, WOOD. The Ordway Family of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Missouri and Kentucky James Ordway, born in 1618 and died after 1708. He was baptized St. Peter, Bengeworth, Worchestershire, England 5 August 1621, and arrived in Dover, Massachusetts in 1641 at about 12 years of age. He married first at Newbury, Massachusetts, November 25, 1648 to Ann Emery. John Ordway, Great-Great Grandson of James and Ann Emery Ordway, was born Feb. 15, 1736-7, married Hannah Morse at Haverhill, Massachusetts July 22, 1762. Ancestors of Hannah Morse have been traced back to the 1500's. John and Hannah Morse Ordway had 10 children, the information below concerns 6 of their children. 1. Sarah Ordway b. May 8, 1763 - Amesbury, Essex County Massachusetts 2. William Ordway b. May 18, 1765 - Amesbury, Essex County Massachusetts, married Mary Scribner who lived near Hebron, New Hampshire. William died in 1813 in South East Missouri. She married (2nd) Edward Mathew, and (3rd) Mr. Taylor. Children of William and Mary Scribner Ordway: a. Grace Ordway born May 16, 1792, Bow New Hampshire - marrried Edward Kew of Prices Landing, Missouri. b. Rosanna Ordway born Oct. 24, 1793 Bow, New Hampshire - married Thomas Fletcher of Prices Landing, Missouri. c. Mary/Polly Ordway born June 27, 1795 - mar. Ben Wirt, who lived near Sikeston, Missouri in Scott County. d. Abigail Scribner Ordway born Oct. 17, 1799 married John Northent of Prices Landing, Missouri. e. Zelinda Ordway mar. William Rial and lived in Southern Illinois f. Charles Ordway 3. Hannah Ordway born 1768 Amesbury, Essex County Massachusetts. 4. Stephen Ordway born July 27, 1771 Amesbury, Essex County Massachusetts. Stephen married Polly Brown of Bow, New Hampshire on June 26, 1798. When he was 19 years old he became a pioneer settler at Cockamouth (now Hebron) New Hampshire. He and Polly had 9 children. Stephen lived to be 92 years old. In 1811 Stephen was the executor for his brother Daniel's estate. Daniel died in Tywapity Bottom, Louisiana Territory. 5. Daniel Ordway born June 16, 1773 - see below 6. Sgt. John Ordway born 1775, Dunbarton New Hampshire - Merrimack County. John Ordway was a member of the Lewis & Clark Exposition. He was held in high esteem by Lewis and Clark, and was often put in charge of the camp, while the two were off exploring other areas. His diary, contains descriptions of the fabulous sights he encountered on the expedition. John Ordway enlisted about 1800 in the United States Army and in 1803 was in Captain Russell Bissell's Co. of the 1st Inf., stationed at Kaskaskia, Illinois. On Jan. 1, 1804 he joined the Lewis and Clark expedition. For the trip to the Pacific Coast John received $15.00 per month and at least 400 acres of land. He also bought claims of three other members of the party thereby acquiring 960 acres in addition to his own. After returning to the east, he visited his parents in New Hampshire and it is believed he married Betsy (?). John and Betsy, then returned to Missouri. He died a young man in 1817. His wife outlived him and applied for lands appropriated for the relief of earthquake sufferers. No doubt, John was the reason his brothers Daniel and William found their way to Missouri. 5. Daniel Ordway married Elizabeth Poor (1782-1852) Chester Township, Rockingham, New Hampshire. She was the daughter of Eliphalet and Elisabeth Kelly. The marriage took place in Chester, New Hampshire, but was recorded in Grafton, New Hampshire. The Poor family has been well documented in the book Descendants of Samuel Poor and his wife Rebecca. Daniel and Elizabeth lived in the Grafton, New Hampshire area until 1810. During that time their children Daniel (1803-1862), David (1804-?), Betsey (1806-18xx) and Grace (1807-1885) were born. In the early part of 1810, Daniel, Elizabeth and their children left New Hampshire. We do not know how they journeyed, but most likely overland, perhaps to Pittsburgh and then flat boat to Cape Girardeau. The family resided in an area known as Tywapity Bottom. Sometime in those first months Daniel died intestate. Daniel's estate was probated and administered by his brother Stephen in Grafton, New Hampshire on Jan. 7, 1811. The final filing was December 23, 1824. The estate consisted of monies owed to Daniel from various individuals and perhaps this explains the thirteen year time span to finalize the estate. The court papers mention Elizabeth as wife of Daniel. No record of the death or burial location of Daniel Ordway has been located in Missouri. Elizabeth Poor Ordway (Daniel's widow) married Kinsay Robison in the Territory of Louisiana, district of Cape Girardeau and the township of Tywapity on March 3, 1811. Our first knowledge of Kinsay is in the Livingston County Kentucky land records, when his name appears in 1801. Soon after the marriage Elizabeth, Kinsay and her children are found in Caldwell County, Kentucky. Elizabeth and Kinsay Robison had 7 children. They lived in Caldwell County Kentucky until 1833 when they moved to Shelby County Illinois. Elizabeth Poor Ordway Robison died in Shelby County Illinois February 24, 1852 of smallpox. Her tombstone reads: "Elizabeth wife of Kinsay Robison Died Feb. 24, 1852 aged 69 yrs. 8m. 24 ds. Our Mother" Kinsay Robison died May 28, 1861. Aged 86 years 6 ds. "Our Father". Kinsay is buried next to Elizabeth. The children of Daniel Ordway and Elizabeth Poor Ordway 1. Daniel Ordway (Jr.) born 10-30-1803 in New Hampshire. He was a farmer in Caldwell County, Kentucky. Married Elizabeth Smith, 4-22-1835. They had 6 children. Daniel died March 22, 1862. 2. David Ordway born October 11, 1804 in New Hampshire. No other information has been located. 3. Betsey (Elizabeth Ordway) born January 9, 1806 in New Hampshire. She married (1st) William Lowry in Caldwell County KY on Feb. 5, 1824. Kinsay Robison's name appears on her wedding license as her step-father and guardian. Betsy and William Lowry had 6 children. William Lowry died September 20, 1836. His last child Mary, was born after his death. Betsy Ordway Lowry, married (2nd) Pearlman B. Lunsford and had 5 more children. No record has been found of her death. 4. Grace Ordway born August 5, 1807 in New Hampshire. Married John Lowery on September 22, 1825 in Caldwell County Kentucky. John Lowery was the brother of the above William Lowry. The spelling of the name Lowry appears to have been changed by the Grace and John Lowery family. John Lowery was born in Virginia on February 26, 1806. He was the son of James Lowry of Goochland County, Viriginia and Nancy Wood Lowry of Fluvanna County, Virginia. James Lowry is buried in Caldwell County, Kentucky. The burial location for Nancy Wood Lowry is unknown. John and Grace Ordway Lowery lived in Caldwell County Kentucky all of their lives. John was a successful farmer, and the family prospered. They had 11 children. Grace kept a family bible that was the basis for much of the Lowry/Lowery/Ordway research. John and Grace Lowery are buried in the Crider Cemetery in Caldwell County, Kentucky. John died August 1, 1874 and Grace died October 29, 1885. ------------------------------ From: moravia@doitnow.com Date: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 10:22:53 -0800 Subject: KY-F: Ky obits, A surnames, file 1 (Abner - Adams) Have about 2 megabytes of these things, but in respect for you mail boxes and sanity, will only send handful of small files at any time.
