Menendez" Date: Wed, 10 Dec 1997 15:15:29 -0800 Subject: KY-F: OBIT: Johnson, Cave Col., 1850 - Boone Co OBIT: Johnson, Cave Col., 1850 - Boone Co. submitted by Polly A. Menendez Col. Cave Johnson departed this life at his residence, at North Bend, Boone Co., KY, on the 19th day of January, 1850, in the 90th year of his age. Sound and firm of constitution and health, endowed with strong common sense, sedate and thoughtful, taciturn and slow of speech, the deceased possesed much individuality and originality of character and was a good specimen of that hardy, vigorous and manly class of men, - the pioneers of Kentucky. When he immigrated to Kentucky, it was a wilderness, whose rich soil and productiveness made it the common property and general battlefield, not only of the wolf, the panther, and the buffalo, but of the equally wild and savage Indian. The white man came to "the dark and bloody ground" and in a few years the contest for the dominion was over, - the howl of the wolf, the cry of the panther, and the yell of the Indian were heard no more. For more than seventy years Col. Cave has been an inhabitant and citizen of Kentucky. But of the connection of the deceased with the early settlement of our state or with the active and busy scenes of subsequent times, it is not out purpose here to write. The sketch of his life, written by himself, and furnished us but a few months before his death must suffice. In politics Col. Johnson was ever a Democrat. In religion he was a Baptist and had been a consistent and zealous member of that church for more than fifty years. He also took great interest in the spreading of the gospel, and contributed liberally to the support of foreign and home missions. A short time before his death he prepared the following narrative, written in his own steady plain business hand: (to be continued, see Reminiscences From the Life of Col. Cave Johnson) ------------------------------ From: moravia@doitnow.com Date: Wed, 10 Dec 1997 19:18:43 -0800 Subject: KY-F: Morgan County Marriages, 1821 - 1882, (1842) 1842 January 4, 1842 Hardy Tackett Sarah Senters A Cottle January 13, 1842 Hardin Hurst Perlina Landsaw William Lykins January 16, 1842 John W Ellington Hannah H Lewis A Cottle January 20, 1842 Jefferson Stamper Elizabeth Gilliam Ramey Maxey January 21, 1842L Anderson Osbourn Mary Hinson MSNC/R January 30, 1842 Jackson Colvin Mahala Stacy Elijah Coffee February 4, 1842 Absolom Haney Elizabeth Childers Jesse Cassity February 17, 1842 Levi Kash Margaret Pieratt Joseph Nickell February 21, 1842L Jesse Stephens Winifred Hinson MSNC/R February 24, 1842 Ramey Burchett Polly Pennington Jackson Huff February 24, 1842 William Osbourn Nancy May William Lykins February 24, 1842 Isaac Williams Manerva Hamilton Jackson Huff February 24, 1842 Thornton Williams Syntha Hill Jackson Huff February 25, 1842 Thomas Pieratt Elizabeth Cox Ramey Maxey March 8, 1842 John Johnson Mary "Polly" Day Joseph Nickell March 8, 1842 David S Trimble Mariah Swango Joseph Nickell April 7, 1842 Wallace W Brown Nancy Hill Jackson Huff April 14, 1842 Asa Carter Mahala Hammons Joseph Carter April 28, 1842 Owen Adkins Amy Wilbourn J F Wilbourn April 30, 1842 Boyd Dulin Bethany Blanton Jackson Huff May 8, 1842 James H Hamlin Fanny Ra?
