Our thanks to Marjorie for the following information. A long neglected very old cemetery with green ground covering, edged with trees is located in Webster County near Wheatcroft on the Old Blackford to Wheatcroft Road. It is on the land grant to James Wallace, recorded in Henderson County Land Grant Book No. 1 in 1803. Most of the graves are unmarked, or marked with native stones weathered to the extent of no lettering at all. James Wallace (known as Capt. James Wallace) is buried there, with a military insigne engraved on his marble tombstone which has fallen over. As long as anyone can remember there has been a legend in Wheatcroft telling of a widow, "Old Granny Wallace", who lived on that hill and "raised five strong, stalwart sons; and who was the 'Granny' of all the Wallaces around here". The story is not legendary. Kesiah Wallace, widow of Capt. James Wallace, lived and died there, rearing five sons and also five daughters. Most of the Wallaces in both Webster County and Union County are descended from James Wallace or his brothers Benjamin and Elijah Wallace.
