The hillside is extremely steep and the cemetery is rarely used as of this date. There were several recent burials found. The survey has been compared with one done by Mr. Shelby Meyer in 1965. Several stones omitted at that time have been located and several that were found by Meyer are no longer standing or have disappeared all together. The cemetery is in fairly poor condition and contains areas where graves have sunken in causing stones to fall over. Many of the large stones are tilting due to poor condition of their footers. In the summer, grass and weeds generally take over and many stones are hard to find. One of the best areas of the cemetery is actually on top where it is easier to mow and maintain the ground. There is a large mausoleum on top of the hill contain the Mackie family. Another os the large stones is for Dr. Joshua Bradford and wife. Mary of Augusta's famous citizens are buried here, the Taylor families, Doniphans, Bradfords, Marshall, just to name a few. The cemetery is easy to find, it is on the south side of route 8 in Augusta and is accessed by a road that leads to the top of the hill. 024 BAKER FAMILY CEMETERY #1: The Baker Family Cemetery is in a heavily wooded area and is in poor condition. There are numerous unmarked graves and numerous graves that have sunk and the staones have fallen over. In addition, many of the old stones are difficult to read. The cemetery contains the grave of John Baker, who has been identified by the DAR as a Revolutionary War Soldier. A marker indicating this is placed at the grave site. There are many missing tombstones and several graves are maked only by field stones. This survey was taken in the summer of 1995 and has been compared with an earlier survey to include any stones found then that have now disappeared. The cemetery is located on the right side of Highway 19, 3 miles south of Augusta as you travel to the AA Highway. The cemetery is easy to miss, as summer months bring heavy growth of grass, and stones cannot be seen from the road. 025 BAKER FAMILY CEMETERY #2: This small Baker Family cemetery contains at least five burials, however it appears that there were additional graves which were either unidentified with stones or the stones are missing. The cemetery is behind a barn on the Bud Malone farm, 3 miles south of August on Highway 19. These descriptions are from the Tombstone Inscription Book. Wright who died at his home on East Spring Street Saturday morning at four o'clock. His death had been hourly expected for many days, and it was only the kind attention given him along with the quiet, even temperment of the man that prolonged his days. He was born in Bardstown Kentucky on 01-14-1834: hence he lived almost four scoreyears and one. His first wife was Virginia Sheeley, at whose death the young father was left with two little girls, Miss Annie Wright of St Joseph and Mrs. Hattie Holladay of Weston. He was married a second time to Miss Juilette Bramel on 12-13-1864 at Savannah Missouri. She with his eleven children, twelve grandchildren and two great children survive. His second set of children are: Mrs P.E. Moore, Mokane, Mrs. O.D. Wharton, Kansas City, Mrs. F.S. Burgess, Dearborn, Mrs. J.R. Davis, Mexico, James R. Wright, Woodruff, P.B. Wright St. Joseph, Mrs. Sam Scott, Mr. F.A. Wright and Mrs. Martin Scott, Weston. Mr. Wright had been a member of the Baptist church since his boyhood, so his funeral was conducted by Rev. Lee Harrell of the Liberty Baptist church Sunday afternoon at his late residence, and the remains were followed by a large concourse of relatives and freinds to his final resting place at Pleasant Ridge. Calm and serene as the close of a pleasant summer day was the close of this long and useful life, the weary feet that through these busy years had pressed the shores of time, lingered but a moment in the valley where they brushed the dew of Paradise, and now he knows the walks of God.
