Carter" Date: Thu, 15 Jan 1998 13:28:21 -0600 Subject: KY-F: CEM: Granny's Hill, Webster Co CORRECTION Nancy, I just thought that I would drop you a note regarding the article you posted on the Ky-Footsteps yesterday. The family buried at Granny's Hill Cemetery are my ancestors. In fact, the Capt. James Wallace talked about below is my 3rd great grandfather; his son, Benjamin P. Wallace, also listed below, is my 2nd great grandfather. This article was written by a cousin, Marjorie (Jenkins) Wallace, now deceased back in 1965. In her article below, she relates the story of "Old Granny Wallace", the Granny on the hill, hence "Granny's Hill Cemetery". In the article, she attributed the Granny on the hill to being the widow of Capt. James Wallace, his 2nd wife, "Kesiah Wallace". This is an error that Marjorie corrected in later writings. After Capt. James Wallace died, his widow and 2nd wife moved to Caldwell Co. There was another "Kesiah Wallace" who was the actual "Granny on the hill". She was Keziah D. (Curry) Wallace, wife of Abraham Cook Wallace. Abraham Cook Wallace was one of the sons of Capt. James Wallace & Nancy (Curry) Wallace. Abraham Cook Wallace and his wife, Keziah D. (Curry) Wallace lived on the property, and after Abraham's death in 1871, Keziah continued to live there on the property and thus developed the legend on the Granny on the hill.
