Jackson of Fleming & Nicholas Counties, KY and Boone Co., IN. LINN CO. REPUBLIC (Kansas) JOHN JACKSON IS BURIED Aged Citizen Passed Away Friday and Was Buried Sunday John Jackson, who for many years has lived a mile west of Wall Street, died at the home of his son Morton last Friday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. N. Gause at the Wall Street Christian church Sunday and the body was buried in Wesley Chapel cemetery. Mr. Jackson had been in poor health for some time and a short time ago he and his wife moved in with their son Morton Jackson where they made their home until his death. He was a veteran of the Civil war and was highly esteemed by those who knew him. John Kirk Jackson was born December 22, 1841, near Elizaville, Fleming county, Ky., where he lived until the outbreak of the Civil war. Here he united with the Baptist church. At the beginning of the Civil war, riding a horse he called Charlie he rode to a village called Bishop's Mills, later Jackson Mills, and volunteered in Co. K, 7th Kentucky cavalry, under Col. Folkner. He was orderly for Capt. Golden on Gen. McCook's staff in Sherman's march to the sea. He served 3 years and 10 days and was never injured, but his horse Charley he lost. At the close of the war he was discharged. After the war Mr. Jackson came home to his brother, who had married and moved to Lebanon, Boone county, Ind., where he married Mary Elizabeth Painter, September 17, 1867. His children are a daughter, Mrs. Amazetta Henderson and Wm. Morton Jackson. In 1870, Mr. Jackson and brother Alfred moved to Lafayette county, Mo. Two years later they moved to Butler, Mo., where they became partners in farming and carpenter work until 1898 when they came to Kansas, buying farms within a mile of each other, the farthest they had ever been apart in their lives except during the war and one year in Lafayette county, John K. moving in 1870 and Alfred in 1871. Here near Wall Street Mr. Jackson has lived since coming to the county, where both of his children have always lived near him, always very thoughtful of their father and mother. Being in poor health and having trouble with his heart, some of the children or grandchildren have been with Mr. Jackson and his wife constantly, never leaving him alone except a few minutes at a time. A few days before death came his son took them home with him for the winter, where he died. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 May 1998 07:33:55 -0400 From: "Smith, Elizabeth" Subject: KFY: OBIT: Mary Elizabeth Pointer Jackson, 1919 - Bath & Fleming Cos Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Pointer Jackson, Daughter of Samuel Gregg Pointer and Ellenor Robinson Saunders who married in Fleming Co., KY. She was united in marriage to John Kirk Jackson September 17, 1876, at Lebanon, Ind., and united with the Christian church at Salem, Ind., in 1868. Uncle John and Aunt Mary made several changes, but she was always anxious to find a church home in each community. She was identified with the Wall Street Christian church at the time of its organization under the preaching of Rev. Henry Martin. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson moved to Lafayette county, Ind., in 1870 and to Missouri in 1873. In 1898 they moved to their home near Wall Street, Kan. Aunt Mary was loved and respected by all who knew her. MOUND CITY REPUBLIC (Kansas) Obituary Mrs. Alfred Jackson Dies Mrs. Alfred Jackson died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Noah Burkhead, Tuesday night. She was 85 years of age and had been in failing health for a long time. Her husband died several years ago. Funeral Services are being held at the Wall Street Christian church Thursday. Internment will be in Woodland cemetery at Mound City. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nancy Eleanor Painter was born near Flemingsburg, Ky., March 30, 1843. She died June 19, 1928. She was united in marriage to Alfred Jackson January 18, 1866. To this union five children were born--Mrs. Fred Heckadon, Mrs. P. S. Cope and Mrs. Noah Burkhead, all of Mound City, Kan.; Melbourne, living in California, and Clifton of Denver, Colo. She also leaves 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Early in life Mrs. Jackson accepted Jesus as her Savior and from that time has lived a true and faithful Christian life. She found her greatest joy in life in rearing her family, teaching them good morals and Christian principles. A noble worthy life and light went out with her passing. She was ever kind and thoughtful of others. We have many times enjoyed her company and influence. She was one of many dear old ladies the writer has learned to love, and when I go to the homes of her daughters with whom she has lived since her husband passed on about five years ago, we shall miss her greatly. The last six months of her life she has lived with her youngest daughter, Mrs. Noah Burkhead, where she and the other daughters did all that could be done to make her comfortable and relieve her pain and suffering. A wonderful mother has crossed the river to the other shore. Yes, we shall miss her, but we are thinking of the glorious meeting over there, where all our tears shall be wiped away and we shall part no more.--A. friend ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 May 1998 17:34:37 -0400 From: Red Heart Subject: KFY: MARR: Russell County, 1826-1865, A's Russell Co., KY Marriages, 1826-1865 - Aarons-Aulger Russell Co., KY Marriages, 1826-1865 - Aarons-Aulger Compilation copyright 1985 Gary L.
