"MY PARTNER" A Song composed by R.P. Pike of Brodhead, Ky Once I had a partner Logue Thompson was his name, His drinking and gambling To me he always blamed His drinking and his gambling His drinking never failed But he got me locked up In Mt Vernon Jail I was tried before Judge Williams An honest man was he Logue Thompson proved I was gambling In spite of all my pleas The jury found me guilty The judge then did say You're now bound for Frankfort Nine long years to stay He took me down to prison And locked me in No 4 He brought me in the pork and beans But often wished for more, My bed was always ready As to sleep, I always failed Still he kept me locked up In Mt Vernon jail One night as I lay sleeping I had a pleasant dream I dreamed I was on the Ohio Pulling down the stream I had my love beside me Ready to go my bail I awoke broken hearted boys, In the Mt Vernon jail I wrote my love a letter One more than she did write I asked her would she bail me out If I would quit getting tight She waltzed up tot eh "National" Got fifty dollars down She waltzed up to the jail house And waltzed me out of town Now my song is ended One word I have to say We'll drink our moutain whisky We'll throw our money away We'll drink our mountain whisky boys We'll throw our money about For when we get in jail OUr girls will bail us out ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Dec 1998 05:17:05, -0500 From: DBXP64A@prodigy.com ( C L CRAWFORD) Subject: KFY: Mt Vernon Signal Newspapers, 1900, Rockcastle Co MAY 4, 1900 STATE DEATH: Irvine Alcorn a Madison county farmer was accidentally shot and killed by his son, who was examing a pistol "Doe" Lowrey accused of a criminal assault on Mrs Haman Million in Madison county has been taken to Lexington for safe keeping Dink Farmer, Democratic condidate for jailer, of Lincoln county and Tom Gill met on the pike Saturday morning when the latter cut two ugly gashes in the side and breast of Farmer.
